No—Elden Ring does not support multiplayer across PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Friends can play together across console generations within the same family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. Steam players are grouped with other Steam PC players.
Which Elden Ring platforms can play together?
FromSoftware’s official FAQ says cross-platform multiplayer across different hardware makers is not supported. It groups compatible players by platform family:
| Your platform | Can play with | Cannot play with |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 | PlayStation 5 | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam PC |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation 4 | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam PC |
| Xbox One | Xbox Series X|S | PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam PC |
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox One | PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam PC |
| PC via Steam | PC via Steam | PlayStation and Xbox |
So PS4 and PS5 multiplayer is cross-generation, not cross-platform. The same distinction applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Neither lets players join a different console family or PC.
Can PS5 and PC play Elden Ring together?
No. A PS5 player cannot join a Steam PC player. The same restriction applies to PS4 and PC, Xbox and PC, and PlayStation and Xbox. A multiplayer password or invitation does not change the platform-family compatibility described by the official sources.

How to play with a friend
- Confirm your platform family. Everyone must be on PlayStation, Xbox or Steam PC; PlayStation and Xbox generations can mix within their own families.
- Install the current game update. The official notice dated September 8, 2026 says version 1.17.1 is required for online play on the releases listed there. Check for a newer update if you are playing later, as patches can supersede that requirement.
- Use the in-game multiplayer invitation process. Bandai Namco’s multiplayer guide describes inviting a specific friend who is “playing on the same platform.”
If you are choosing an edition to play with friends, check the platform before buying: another platform’s edition does not remove these compatibility limits. The PlayStation Store listing is for the PS4 and PS5 game.
