To respec in Elden Ring, defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, then speak to her at the Raya Lucaria Grand Library and choose Rebirth. Each Rebirth costs one Larval Tear and lets you redistribute your attributes, but you cannot lower them below your starting class’s baseline.
How to respec in Elden Ring
- Defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Beating her unlocks Rebirth.
- Return to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library. Rennala remains there after the fight.
- Choose Rebirth and use one Larval Tear. The Larval Tear is the item required to reallocate your attributes.
- Redistribute your attributes. You can adjust your build, but each attribute must remain at or above the minimum set by your starting class.
The in-game name for respeccing is Rebirth. The community-maintained Rebirth reference describes defeating Rennala as the unlock condition and one Larval Tear as the cost.

What your starting class means for a respec
Your starting class—also called your origin—sets the minimum stat baseline for Rebirth. You can redirect levels into a different build, but you cannot erase the attributes your origin began with. Bandai Namco describes each class as a starting point on its official Elden Ring classes page; it is not a permanent restriction to one play style.
How many Larval Tears are available?
The Elden Ring Wiki.gg Larval Tear reference lists 18 in the base game and nine additional tears in Shadow of the Erdtree’s Realm of Shadow. These are community-maintained reference totals, not a count confirmed by Bandai Namco. They represent the listed supply for the content covered by that page, so each Rebirth uses one of a finite number of tears.

Does Shadow of the Erdtree change respec?
Bandai Namco Europe’s Version 1.12 notes, published 19 June 2024, say the update added support for Shadow of the Erdtree and that five hairstyles can be selected through Rennala’s Rebirth feature. The notes do not say that the expansion changes the attribute-respec cost or the requirement to defeat Rennala. The notes are not confirmation of the latest live game version.
The publisher’s Version 1.12 patch notes describe the hairstyle addition; the attribute-respec steps and tear counts above are documented by the community-maintained references linked in this guide.
