Howling Star Fist is a close-range Dexterity build built around Star Fist, with Beast’s Roar as a way to attack enemies beyond fist range. The level-150 configuration associated with the build comes from a June 2022 Fextralife video; its detailed equipment and stats are reproduced in a Steam Community review, so treat them as that transcription’s historical setup—not a universally optimal or freshly tested build.
How the Howling Star Fist build works
The core idea is to pressure nearby enemies with Star Fist’s repeated attacks and use charged heavy attacks when an opening allows. The weapon is a fist-class paired weapon with innate blood loss, while Beast’s Roar provides a ranged option when an enemy is out of reach. The Steam transcription also describes using Bloodflame Blade to support bleed buildup.
This is a timing- and spacing-dependent setup, not a guarantee of damage or performance. The cited configuration uses specific talismans and an offhand axe to complement its roar option; changing affinity, equipment, or patch state can change how it feels.
Transcribed level-150 equipment and attributes
Fextralife’s “Elden Ring Dexterity Fist Build Guide – How to Build a Howling Starfist” was published June 8, 2022 and frames the build at level 150. A Steam Community review provides the following detailed transcription of its configuration. These are the transcribed build’s choices, not verified in-game recommendations for every starting class.

The build transcription does not identify a starting class or establish these values as breakpoints. Use the spread as a reference configuration rather than assuming it will fit every character without adjustment.
How to use the setup in combat
- Close distance when it is safe. Star Fist is a short-range weapon, so its main attacks require you to be near the target.
- Use charged heavy attacks during openings. The transcription recommends charged heavies when enemy recovery or another opening gives you time to commit.
- Use Beast’s Roar at range. When an enemy is outside fist reach, the roar supplies the build’s ranged option. The transcription attributes a roar-damage boost to carrying the Highland Axe offhand.
- Apply Bloodflame Blade to support the bleed plan. The historical setup pairs the incantation with Star Fist’s innate blood loss and bleed-related talismans; actual buildup and effectiveness depend on combat conditions and game balance.
Where to find Star Fist
The weapon reference places Star Fist on a corpse in an arched alcove on the left side of the main entrance to the Royal Colosseum in Leyndell, Royal Capital. It is described as a spiked iron manifer and a paired fist-class weapon that induces blood loss.
A secondary reference accessed in 2026 lists requirements of 12 Strength and 8 Dexterity, weight 3.0, 105 base physical attack, Strike damage, and 45 passive blood loss buildup. It also lists Endure as the default skill, says the weapon uses standard Smithing Stone upgrades rather than Somber upgrades, and says its skill cannot be changed. These are secondary-source item figures; check the weapon’s current in-game details before relying on them for optimization.

Bandai Namco’s version 1.09 notes, dated March 23, 2023, list a PvP-exclusive decrease to the poise damage of heavy and heavy-running attacks for Fist and Claw weapon types. The same PvP-only section says Lifesteal Fist’s power, range, and grab angle were increased. The notes explicitly state: “The adjustments in this section do not affect single-player or cooperative play.”
