How to start an expedition with friends
Players are solo while in Roundtable Hold, even if they are online. Set up your party from the expedition interface before launching.

Return to Target and commence the expedition.
The settings remain in place until you change them. If you start a multiplayer expedition by mistake, you can cancel before matchmaking completes. These steps follow Bandai Namco’s Duo Expeditions guide, dated July 31, 2025, and its starter guide.
Which matchmaking setting should you use?

Party size and offline play
Standard expeditions can be set for one player, two players, or three players. Solo play is available online or offline; cooperative multiplayer requires an internet connection.
To play offline, open System > Network and select Play offline. You still need to choose expedition settings. If you try to launch a multiplayer expedition while offline, the game displays a warning. Bandai Namco documents these options in its Duo Expeditions guide and starter guide.

Which platforms can play together?
Crossplay between different platforms is unavailable, according to Bandai Namco Europe’s launch guide. Players can play across generations within a console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. That does not allow PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players to join one another.
Does Nightreign match random players by skill or connection?
Bandai Namco’s general Duo Expeditions instructions explain party size and password settings but do not specify the criteria used to pair random players in standard expeditions. They do not establish a universal skill-, region-, connection-quality-, or latency-based matchmaking rule.
There is a mode-specific exception: Bandai Namco’s Deep of Night guide, dated August 28, 2025, says multiplayer players of similar depth will generally be matched in that mode. Deep of Night is online-only. The guide also says leaving or disconnecting during multiplayer incurs a rating penalty; the penalty is removed if a player returns immediately after a disconnect. Those rules apply to Deep of Night, not necessarily to standard expeditions.
Host and progression
The player who initiates matchmaking is treated as the host for game-progression purposes, and the host’s world state directly affects teammates’ rewards, according to Bandai Namco’s starter guide. Keep that in mind when deciding which friend should initiate the expedition.
