To get Memory Fragments in Elden Ring Nightreign, play Expeditions as the Nightfarer whose story you want to advance, then check that character’s Journal after returning to Roundtable Hold. Fragments can be awarded after successful or failed Expeditions, but later Journal chapters may require defeating a Nightlord with that Nightfarer. When a chapter offers Begin Remembrance, select it and complete the scene or objective that follows.
How Memory Fragments and Remembrances work
Memory Fragments unlock further Journal chapters and Remembrances for a Nightfarer. Bandai Namco’s Official Starter Guide describes the fragments as necessary to access further Remembrances. PC Gamer’s Memory Fragment guide reports that fragments may be awarded after either a successful or failed Expedition. It also says later chapters can require a Nightlord victory with the character whose story you are advancing.

That means a failed run can still contribute to early progression, but it is not a guaranteed way through every later chapter. The available guidance does not establish a drop rate or a complete list of character-by-character chapter requirements.
How to get fragments and start a Remembrance
- Choose the Nightfarer you want to progress. Fragment and Journal progression is tied to that character’s story, so select them before starting the Expedition.
- Play an Expedition. PC Gamer reports that a Memory Fragment can be awarded after a successful or failed run. The source does not specify a guaranteed number of runs or a drop percentage.
- Check the Journal at Roundtable Hold. The fragment notice may be separate from the end-of-run rewards overview, so inspect the Journal after returning rather than relying only on the reward screen.
- Meet the chapter’s requirement. If the Journal stops advancing after failed runs, try defeating a Nightlord with the Nightfarer you are progressing; later chapters may require that win.
- Select Begin Remembrance when it appears. This enters the Realm of Remembrance, a version of Roundtable Hold connected to that character’s past.
- Complete the active scene or objective, then revisit the Journal. Remembrance steps can involve conversations or smaller encounters, or they can activate a personal objective during an Expedition.
What to do if a Remembrance is not progressing
You have had several failed runs without a new chapter
Some fragments may arrive after failed Expeditions, but PC Gamer reports that later chapters can require a Nightlord defeat with the selected Nightfarer. Try completing an Expedition successfully with that character, then check the Journal at Roundtable Hold.

Review the Journal after returning to Roundtable Hold. The reward message may not be part of the end-of-match reward overview.
No personal objective appears on the Expedition map
The official guide says a Remembrance-related personal objective may appear on the map during an Expedition while you are in the Realm of Remembrance, but it is not guaranteed to appear in every session, even when its conditions are met. Keep the Remembrance active and check the map during the run.

Switch to the Nightfarer whose Journal you want to progress before starting another Expedition, then review that character’s Journal when you return.

Completing a Nightfarer’s Remembrances and Journal entries can lead to additional scenes during that character’s ending after the final Expedition’s Day 3 boss. The official guide describes this as an outcome of completing the character’s story content; it does not provide a universal list of every chapter threshold or objective.
