“Coming 2025” is now an old announcement tagline: ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN released worldwide on May 30, 2025, and Bandai Namco’s US product page lists it as “Available Now.” It is a standalone action-survival spin-off set in the ELDEN RING universe, built around three-player expeditions through a changing region called Limveld. You do not need to own or play the original ELDEN RING.
What is ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN?
FromSoftware developed NIGHTREIGN as a standalone action-survival game, and Bandai Namco published it. It reworks elements of ELDEN RING into session-based expeditions rather than requiring the original game. FromSoftware describes the central hunt as a three-day expedition: players explore and prepare through two days, then face a Nightlord on the third. Bandai Namco’s product page and FromSoftware’s announcement provide the official overview.

How does an expedition work?
Choose a Nightfarer and explore
Each expedition begins with a choice of Nightfarer. The team enters Limveld, where the terrain and opportunities change between sessions. As night falls, the playable area contracts, pushing the hunt forward.
Build strength before the Nightlord
During the first two days, players gather runes, weapons, passive abilities and useful items. Those finds shape the build they bring to the final encounter, so preparation means weighing a developing character against the strengths and weaknesses of the coming target.

Face the Nightlord
After two nights of exploration and preparation, the expedition culminates in a Nightlord fight. The shrinking map and limited expedition structure make this a focused survival-action loop, not simply a longer open-world journey.
Can you play NIGHTREIGN solo, and is it three-player only?
The main format is designed for three players, but single-player is also supported. The official descriptions establish those modes; they do not establish AI teammates or online cross-platform play, so neither should be assumed from the player-count information alone.
