How to unlock Undertaker’s Remembrances
Follow the chapter and active Remembrance objective shown in the in-game journal; guides describe some unlock requirements differently. The first journal chapter is available from the start. Progress through expeditions and Nightlord defeats to unlock later chapters: Chapter 3 begins the first personal quest, Chapter 5 begins the Scholar quest, and the hidden Chapter 7 objective follows the earlier objectives and the Heolstor/Finger sequence. Chapters 4 and 6 become available after preceding personal quests.

These steps are based on walkthrough reporting, not official developer instructions. When a guide’s shorthand about chapter or expedition access differs from your journal, use the journal and on-screen event indicators as your guide. Game8, PC Gamer, GamesRadar+, and Elden Ring Wiki.gg cover the questline.
Chapter 3: Defeat the Nightfarers and find the Scholar
- Start the Chapter 3 Remembrance and speak to the Iron Menial. Defeat him when he turns hostile.
- Fight the other Nightfarers in this order: Executor near the Journal area and the Menial’s room; Guardian and Recluse in the central room; Wylder near the Visual Codex in the west wing; then Raider and Ironeye in the Chapel. Focusing Guardian first in the paired fight is a practical tip reported by guides.
- After the fights, speak to the Iron Menial and apologize until his dialogue ends.
- Break the glowing purple fragment on the wall and absorb the Night.
- Find the Scholar in the Hold’s grounds and speak with him to complete the objective.
The quest awards the Leather Monocle Case relic. Its listed effects are a boost to Undertaker’s physical attacks while her own incantation assist effect is active, Physical Attack Up +2, and extended spell duration. Guides suggest it suits a self-buffing Undertaker build, but do not provide controlled performance testing.

Chapter 5: Find the Scholar in the Great Hollow
The objective may say “Search for the Scholar in Limveld,” but the Scholar is in the Great Hollow Shifting Earth event. The northwest castle and its crystal room are the key landmarks.
- Start the Chapter 5 Remembrance. Speak to the Duchess in the center of the Hold and exhaust her dialogue.
- Go to the Chapel and pray at the altar or front row.
- Speak with the Iron Menial, who points you toward the Scholar and the Shifting Earth event.
- Start an expedition with the Great Hollow event active. Guides differ on how they describe expedition access: Game8 refers to a Balancers expedition, while other walkthroughs emphasize having the Great Hollow event active. Follow the event indicator and your active objective.
- Travel to the northwest castle. Use the jump pad near its entrance to reach the balcony and enter the castle.
- In the room, jump onto the chained display or specimen, then continue onto the rafters. Follow the rafters to the small opening or side room. The Scholar is trapped inside a large crystal.
- Interact with the Scholar to take the Primal Core. Speak with him again if he has more dialogue. You do not have to win the expedition, but do not quit to the title screen: finish the run or die so you return to the Hold.
- Back at the Hold, speak with the Scholar in the Chapel.
The Scholar gives you the Night-Hued Glass and Bundled Paper. Completing the Remembrance awards the Undertaker’s Chalice, which Game8 describes as providing one green, one yellow, and one universal relic slot.

Hidden finale: Heolstor and the Dismembered Finger
This final objective is not presented like a normal guided Remembrance quest. After completing the earlier Undertaker objectives, play as Undertaker and defeat Heolstor, the Night Aspect, in the Night Aspect expedition.
- At the ending sequence, check that you have the Dismembered Finger.
- Drop the Finger beside the corpse before interacting with the corpse or offering the Nightlord’s Rune. Guides report a confirmation line when placement registers: Game8 and PC Gamer report “This will do… I’m sure,” while GamesRadar+ reports “This will do.”
- Interact with the corpse and finish the ending.
- Return to the Hold to receive the Glass Necklace relic and Undertaker’s Remembrance skin.
The Glass Necklace’s listed effects are increased Undertaker attack power when activating Ultimate Art, increased attack power from successive attacks, and Ultimate Art Auto Charge +3.
