Complete Seluvis’s potion, puppet and Amber Starlight steps before advancing Ranni’s quest beyond the Fingerslayer Blade. Giving the potion to Gideon is the safest route if you want to preserve Nepheli Loux’s quest; giving it to Nepheli turns her into a puppet and ends her personal questline. A third recipient, the Dung Eater, becomes available after you advance his own quest to the required point.
When to do Seluvis’s quest
Seluvis’s quest becomes available after you join Ranni’s service at Ranni’s Rise in the Three Sisters. Complete the steps below before taking Ranni’s quest beyond the Fingerslayer Blade: Seluvis’s quest and puppet inventory become unavailable later in her story, and the exact later failure point is described inconsistently by the available walkthroughs. The Elden Ring Wiki’s Seluvis guide, updated September 11, 2026, advises prioritizing his steps before progressing too far.
How to complete Seluvis’s questline
- Speak with Seluvis. After speaking with Ranni at Ranni’s Rise, visit Seluvis at Seluvis’s Rise and accept his task.
- Choose who receives the potion. Seluvis asks you to give his potion to Nepheli Loux. You can hand it to Nepheli, give it to Gideon Ofnir to dispose of, or give it to the Dung Eater if you have advanced his quest to the required stage. See the route comparison below before deciding.
- Return and continue Seluvis’s dialogue. Giving the potion to Gideon does not prevent you from continuing Seluvis’s quest. Follow Seluvis’s subsequent dialogue to learn about his puppets.
- Find the hidden chamber and buy a puppet. Search the hidden chamber beneath the ruins near Seluvis’s Rise. Buy a puppet using Starlight Shards; this purchase opens the next part of Seluvis’s progression.
- Retrieve Amber Starlight. Continue Seluvis’s scheme dialogue and bring him Amber Starlight. Returning it earns the Magic Scorpion Charm.
- Finish desired purchases before progressing Ranni. Buy any puppets you want and complete Seluvis’s available steps before advancing Ranni’s quest beyond the Fingerslayer Blade.
Who should receive Seluvis’s potion?

The choice is not simply whether Seluvis’s quest can continue: the Gideon route still lets you proceed. The meaningful trade-off is whether you want to preserve Nepheli’s quest or pursue one of the recipient-specific puppet outcomes. What rewards does Seluvis offer?
Seluvis’s puppet collection includes spirit ashes such as Dolores the Sleeping Arrow, Jarwight and Nepheli Loux Puppet. Which recipient-specific puppet outcome you can pursue depends on your potion choice; puppet purchases use Starlight Shards. Returning Amber Starlight to Seluvis gives the Magic Scorpion Charm. Complete the relevant steps and buy any desired puppets before Ranni’s quest makes Seluvis unavailable.
