After the Tarnished defeats Promised Consort Radahn, the game shows a memory of Miquella asking Radahn to become his consort. Miquella’s stated purpose is to create a gentler world. The memory confirms that a vow between the brothers is central to his plan, but it does not lay out every term of that vow or show what the world under Miquella would become.

The expansion’s prologue sets up this destination: Miquella has gone to the Land of Shadow, divesting himself of his flesh, strength, lineage, and “all things Golden,” while awaiting the return of his promised Lord. The final fight identifies that Lord as Radahn.
How is Radahn alive in Shadow of the Erdtree?
The game’s explanation draws on the Secret Rite Scroll: “A lord will usher in a god’s return, and the lord’s soul will require a vessel.” Windows Central’s ending guide connects that text to the events of the DLC: Radahn’s soul returns in Mohg’s remains, which serve as its vessel. This is the clearest account of the plan, though the final memory itself does not show every step of the soul’s return.

That distinction matters: Radahn is not simply revealed to have survived the base game’s events. The DLC presents his return as part of Miquella’s plan, with Mohg’s body fulfilling the vessel role.
Why is Radahn Miquella’s promised consort?
Miquella’s final memory directly links Radahn to the vow and to his future role as consort. Another clue appears in the Young Lion Armor description: when Malenia let the rotflower blossom at Aeonia, she whispered, “Miquella awaits thee, O promised consort.” The text ties Malenia’s battle with Radahn to Miquella’s plan, but it does not establish every motive behind that battle or spell out precisely what Radahn agreed to.
Some interpretations suggest Radahn’s side of the vow involved an honorable death, fitting his love of battle. That remains a theory, not a clearly confirmed term. The memory establishes Miquella’s request and the existence of a vow; it does not make Radahn’s consent or the full agreement unambiguous.

Miquella says he wants to make the world gentler. The tension is in how he pursues that goal: the DLC depicts charm, the abandonment of parts of himself, and a plan that uses Mohg’s remains as a vessel. It is reasonable to question whether a world shaped through supernatural control could truly be gentle, but that is an ethical interpretation of the story rather than a revealed outcome.
The expansion never shows Miquella’s age after the final battle, so players cannot see whether his vision succeeds or what it would cost. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki told GameSpot that he strongly wanted audiences to feel Miquella’s ending, describing the DLC as definitive closure for the character while leaving room for interpretation. That is useful context for the ending’s deliberate gaps, not a ruling on any single lore theory.
Does the DLC ending change Elden Ring’s main ending?
No. Defeating Miquella and Radahn does not change the base game’s ending: the Tarnished still faces the Elden Beast in the main story. Shadow of the Erdtree gives Miquella’s arc an endpoint without replacing the conclusion of the base game.
How to access the DLC
Bandai Namco’s guide says players must defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then interact with the arm at Mohg’s cocoon to enter the Shadow Realm. The standalone expansion requires Elden Ring; Bandai Namco lists physical editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and separately identifies an edition bundling the base game with the expansion. Check the edition and platform listing if you are buying it, since not every version includes the base game.
