The optional Scadutree Avatar is beneath Shadow Keep in the Church District of northern Scadu Altus. From the Church District Entrance Site of Grace, cross the rooftops and rafters to pull the lever that drains the flooded district. Then descend to the lower level, find the church near Marika’s statue, turn right into the side passage, and take its elevator down to the boss route.
How to reach the Church District
The route begins in the Church District section of Shadow Keep. To approach it, cross the bridges east of Bonny Village and follow the path north toward Shadow Keep, as described by Windows Central.
At the Church District Entrance Site of Grace, make your way across the rooftops and flooded buildings. The route crosses a stone building and an outer walkway, then continues over roofs before dropping through openings onto lower beams. Look for a hall with a Fire Knight; cross its bridge, deal with the bats, and climb the ladder to reach the large lever mechanism. Activate it to drain the district. Reach the elevator and Scadutree Base
- Drain the water first. The elevator route is reached from the lower level of the drained Church District, not from the flooded rooftops.
- Descend to ground level. Watch for two Ulcerated Tree Spirits in the lower area.
- Find the large church. Head to the church containing Marika’s statue.
- Turn right before the statue room. Enter the side hall and locate the elevator in the room between the staircases.
- Follow the route below. Activate any Sites of Grace you reach as you proceed toward Scadutree Base, also called Tree-Worship Sanctum.
The boss is optional, and the flooded district’s rooftop lever and lower-level route make the entrance easy to overlook. The church and elevator directions are also covered by Windows Central.

Prepare for the Scadutree Avatar fight
Use the head as your target
Both PC Gamer and Windows Central recommend aiming for the Avatar’s head, which takes increased damage. Fire weapons or fire incantations are a consistently recommended damage choice. Windows Central also lists magic as a weakness, but that does not establish that magic is best for every build.
Land the critical hit between phases
The encounter has three phases. When a phase’s health bar is depleted and the Avatar falls, perform the critical hit at its head or weak point. PC Gamer and Windows Central report that landing it leaves the Avatar with 25% less health at the start of the next phase.
Recognize the later-phase attacks
Later phases include repeated charges; for the triple charge, PC Gamer recommends rolling sideways. In the final phase, watch for a Holy/light explosion. PC Gamer recommends backing away before rolling through the explosion, while Windows Central notes that rolling toward the Avatar as the final shockwave detonates can create an opening. Treat these as position-dependent options rather than a single dodge direction that works in every situation.
Raise your Scadutree Blessing if needed
Scadutree Fragments let you raise the Scadutree Blessing at a Site of Grace. Bandai Namco says the blessing increases attack power and damage negation in the Realm of Shadow. If the fight feels too difficult, collect available fragments and apply the blessing before trying again; see Bandai Namco’s guide to the Land of Shadow.
What the optional boss rewards
Windows Central lists the Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower and Miquella’s Great Rune among the rewards. Its guide notes that the Great Rune is useful later in the Land of Shadow; that is the context for its value, rather than a general upgrade that benefits every build or situation.
Expansion access requirements
Shadow of the Erdtree requires the Elden Ring base game. Bandai Namco’s guide says to defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then interact with the arm at the cocoon in Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum to enter the Shadow Realm. The guide lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC as platforms.
