ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026. It includes the original game and the SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE expansion, plus two starting classes, four armor sets, and three appearances for Torrent. Here’s what’s in the edition, how its release date changed, and what to check before buying.
What’s included in Tarnished Edition?
The Switch 2 edition bundles the original ELDEN RING action RPG with SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE. It also adds new character and cosmetic options. Bandai Namco names the two starting classes Heavy Knight and Idus Knight; FromSoftware’s announcement confirms four armor sets and three visual customizations for Torrent. The Torrent options change appearance, not the mount’s role or gameplay.
Bandai Namco describes this as the game’s debut on a Nintendo platform, with handheld and docked play on Switch 2. Nintendo UK lists handheld, tabletop, and TV modes.
Why was the Switch 2 release delayed?
The original release window was 2025. On October 23, 2025, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco moved it to 2026, stating that more time was needed for game performance adjustments. They announced the worldwide August 28, 2026 date on June 4, 2026, and Bandai Namco confirmed the game was available on launch day.

The delay announcement explains the schedule change; it does not establish a frame rate, resolution, load time, or other measured result for the finished Switch 2 version. The official pages cited here do not provide a comparable technical benchmark.
What does it cost, and how much space does it need?
Store details vary by region. Nintendo’s US store lists a regular price of $79.99; that is a US storefront price, not a universal price. FromSoftware’s Japanese notice lists ¥9,020 including tax for the Switch 2 edition. Nintendo UK lists a 41.0 GB download size; the listing is region- and product-page-specific, and download requirements can change with updates.

What if you already own Elden Ring on another platform?
If you want to play on Switch 2, the Tarnished Edition includes both the base game and expansion. If you prefer to remain on a platform where you already own the game, the publishers also describe the new additions as a Tarnished Pack for other platforms. That pack requires the separately sold base game; FromSoftware’s Japanese notice lists it for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam, at ¥550 including tax in Japan. Availability and pricing depend on the relevant regional store.
Bandai Namco’s announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for the added content. The announcements do not establish cross-buy or save-transfer support between platforms, so don’t assume either when choosing where to buy.

What should you know about online play?
Nintendo UK lists single-system play for one player and online play for one to six players. Its store page says online play features require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and notes that some online services may not be available in every country. Check the listing and service availability for your region before relying on online features.
How many copies has Elden Ring sold?
The publisher figures use different measures and dates. Bandai Namco Entertainment America said in its August 28, 2026 launch announcement that ELDEN RING had sold more than 30 million units. FromSoftware reported 30 million cumulative shipments as of March 2025, including digital sales and Steam downloads. These figures should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
