Version 1.12 lets players summon Torrent during the Elden Beast battle in Elden Ring’s base game. It did not add Torrent to Shadow of the Erdtree’s final boss fight. That expansion boss received separate balance and visibility adjustments in version 1.14.
Which final battle can you use Torrent in?
The version 1.12 patch notes, dated June 19, 2024, say: “Added new feature to summon spectral steed during the Elden Beast the boss battle.” The Elden Beast is the base game’s final boss, so the change applies to that encounter—not to the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree. Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.12 notes list PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam as targeted platforms.
How the two boss updates differ

The version 1.14 notes explicitly identify the expansion’s final boss and describe those adjustments as changes to the fight, not as the Torrent feature from version 1.12. See Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.14 notes.
What you need to play Shadow of the Erdtree
The expansion requires the Elden Ring base game. Bandai Namco’s official Shadow of the Erdtree page lists editions that bundle the base game and expansion. Store availability can differ by platform and region; check the relevant storefront for current editions.

A later Torrent update changed appearance options
Version 1.17, dated August 27, 2026, added three Spectral Steed Attire options. After obtaining an attire, players can change Torrent’s appearance through the Site of Grace menu. This is a cosmetic customization feature, separate from version 1.12’s ability to summon Torrent during the Elden Beast battle. Details are in Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s version 1.17 notes.
