To complete Volcano Manor’s main contract questline, accept Tanith’s invitation, then defeat Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave, Rileigh the Idle in Altus Plateau, and Juno Hoslow in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Return to Tanith after each invasion and check the drawing room for the next letter. Before defeating Rykard, finish any Manor contracts and NPC quests you want to preserve: his defeat advances the Manor’s state and can change or cut off remaining steps.
How to start the Volcano Manor contracts
- Reach Volcano Manor on Mt. Gelmir. You can travel there by exploring the region or by following Rya’s route; after you reach Altus Plateau, Rya may transport you to the Manor. The route through Rya is not required. (Volcano Manor route guide)
- Speak to Tanith beside the Volcano Manor Site of Grace. Agree to join if you want to follow the contract route, then take the Drawing-Room Key.
- Open the drawing room. Use the key on the nearby drawing-room doors, take the letter from the table, and read it to reveal the first target and map marker.
Should you join Volcano Manor?
Joining is the straightforward way to receive the key and access Tanith’s contracts. A walkthrough reports that joining does not affect the game ending; declining has no immediate consequence described there, but can eventually close access to questlines involving Rya, Bernahl, and Patches. If you want their Manor-related content, accept Tanith’s invitation and complete the desired steps before killing Rykard. (Volcano Manor guide)

These are contract invasions, not ordinary open-world NPCs to hunt down and kill. Interact with each red invasion sign at the map marker, defeat the target in the invasion, and return to the Manor. (GameFAQs walkthrough, updated April 30, 2022; Gamepressure walkthrough, updated June 11, 2022)
1. Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave
Follow the first letter’s marker to Istvan’s red invasion sign in Limgrave. Defeat him, then return to Tanith to receive Magma Shot. Check the drawing room for the next letter before leaving for the second contract.

2. Rileigh the Idle in Altus Plateau
Use the new marker to reach Rileigh’s invasion sign in Altus Plateau. His attacks can inflict Scarlet Rot, so avoid staying in prolonged melee if you are building up the status effect. After winning, report back to Tanith for the Serpentbone Blade and take the Red Letter from the drawing room.
3. Juno Hoslow in the Mountaintops
The Red Letter points to Juno Hoslow, Knight of Blood, in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Before completing this last contract, pause for any Patches, Bernahl, or Rya content you still want to do. Defeat Juno, return to Tanith for Taker’s Cameo, and decide whether to proceed to Rykard.

Optional Manor quests and contracts
Tanith’s three invasions are the main contract sequence, but they are not the only Manor-related content. Patches and Bernahl have optional contracts with separate rewards, and Rya has a parallel questline. These branches are not prerequisites for completing Tanith’s three targets.
Patches
Patches can offer a contract against Great Horned Tragoth near the Magma Wyrm Makar arena. It is an optional branch rather than a step in Tanith’s three-letter chain.

Bernahl offers an optional contract in Leyndell involving two targets. Completing it grants its own reward; it does not replace or advance one of Tanith’s three contracts.
Rya
Rya’s quest runs alongside the contract sequence. Her dialogue and availability can depend on quest order, and killing Rykard or advancing the Manor too far can change which NPC steps remain available. Complete the Rya branch you care about before the boss rather than assuming it will remain accessible afterward.

What to finish before defeating Rykard
Rykard’s defeat advances Volcano Manor’s state, and guides warn that it can cut off or alter further Tanith and NPC progression. Before entering the boss fight, complete the contracts and Manor character steps you want, especially any unfinished Patches, Bernahl, or Rya content.
- Finish Tanith’s three invasions if you want the full contract sequence and its rewards.
- Complete Patches’s Tragoth contract and Bernahl’s Leyndell contract if you want their separate branches and rewards.
- Advance Rya’s quest as desired while her Manor dialogue and steps are available.
There is a step-specific wrinkle: GameFAQs says Taker’s Cameo may still be collected from the drawing room after Rykard, while other guides warn that later Manor steps can be cut off.
