Complete his invasion trial, soak Lord of Blood’s Favor in maiden’s blood, then return it to receive the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which transports you to Mohgwyn Palace. You can complete the invasion step online or use the offline NPC route added in patch 1.06.
How do I complete Varre’s questline?
- Meet Varre at The First Step. Speak with him near the Site of Grace in Limgrave and exhaust his dialogue. After progressing through the early game—including visiting Roundtable Hold and speaking with Finger Reader Enia—he moves to Rose Church. The precise progression conditions can vary; see the community quest reference for the location details.
- Speak with him at Rose Church. Find the church in Liurnia and exhaust his dialogue. When asked about the Two Fingers, choose that they “didn’t seem right.” The quest reference warns that choosing the approving response can block this quest’s progression.
- Complete the invasion trial. Either invade other players three times with Festering Bloody Fingers or use the offline NPC route at Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau. Details for both options are below.
- Accept Lord of Blood’s Favor. Return to Varre at Rose Church after the trial and accept his anointing to receive the white cloth.
- Soak the Favor in maiden’s blood. Take the cloth to a dead maiden’s body at the Church of Inhibition or the Chapel of Anticipation. Then return to Varre with the bloodied Favor.
- Collect your rewards. Give Varre the bloodied Favor to receive the Bloody Finger. Speak with him again to receive the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.
- Optional: finish Varre’s story at Mohgwyn Palace. Before defeating Mohg, use Varre’s invasion sign in the corridor near the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace. Defeat him, then speak to his wounded body to conclude the quest and collect its listed rewards, including Varre’s Bouquet.
Where is Varre after The First Step?
After the opening encounter and the relevant early-game progression, Varre relocates to Rose Church in Liurnia. The relocation follows early milestones that include visiting Roundtable Hold and speaking with Finger Reader Enia; the quest reference lists the location conditions in more detail. Rose Church is also where you return for the invasion trial, the bloodied Favor, and the medal.
Can I do Varre’s quest offline?
Yes. At Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau, interact with the red invasion sign to challenge Magnus the Beast Claw. Bandai Namco’s version 1.06 patch notes, published August 9, 2022, added a new NPC route for advancing Varre’s quest without multiplayer invasion. The detailed quest reference says using Magnus’s sign three times counts; it does not require defeating him. This is distinct from the online route, which calls for three invasions of other players.
Where do I get maiden’s blood for Lord of Blood’s Favor?
The Church of Inhibition in Liurnia is a convenient location with a dead maiden. Another option is the Chapel of Anticipation, reached through a portal at the Four Belfries. Both avoid killing a living NPC. The Xbox Wire guide covers the Church of Inhibition route; the community quest reference lists the Chapel and other options.

How do I get to Mohgwyn Palace?
Return to Varre at Rose Church with the bloodied Favor. After giving it to him and collecting the Bloody Finger, speak to him again for the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Use the medal from your inventory to travel to Mohgwyn Palace. The medal is Varre’s quest reward that provides access to the area.

What happens if I defeat Mohg before finishing Varre’s quest?
Varre’s quest reference warns that defeating Mohg before completing the invasion encounter at Mohgwyn Palace ends Varre’s story off-screen. To get the optional conclusion and its rewards, use Varre’s invasion sign near Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint and speak to his wounded body before defeating Mohg.
