A defensible top 10, following TVLine’s May 2, 2026 ranking, is Pikachu, Greninja, Charizard, Lucario, Sceptile, Gengar, Infernape, Goodra, Incineroar and Hawlucha. This is an editorial ranking based on anime battles—not an official Pokémon power scale.
How to compare Ash’s strongest Pokémon
“Strongest” depends on what counts as evidence. For this anime-focused ranking, the useful measures are major wins and the quality of the opponents, repeat performance across story arcs, tournament results, and the impact of special forms or power-ups. A single impressive victory can raise a Pokémon’s case, but it does not make its record flawless.
Anime feats should not be confused with video-game stats or trading-card strength. Pokémon Support notes that strength depends on the challenge: “The biggest thing to think about, in regards to what is the strongest, is looking at what kind of challenge you’re facing.” The company explains that training shapes video-game performance, while card-game strength can mean different things, such as high HP or the ability to deal heavy damage. Pokémon Support: What is the strongest Pokémon?
Ash’s top 10 strongest Pokémon
1. Pikachu
Pikachu’s case rests on both longevity and its biggest result: defeating Leon’s Charizard in the Masters Eight final and helping Ash win the tournament. It also survived Leon’s Fire Blast in that battle. Pikachu has suffered setbacks—notably an early loss to Trip’s newly caught Snivy—so its record is remarkable, not perfect. Its standing here is based on the anime, rather than a claim that it is Ash’s best Pokémon by video-game stats. The official Pokémon Journeys: The Series page presents Ash and Pikachu as partners.

2. Greninja
Ash-Greninja’s bond-driven form gave Greninja a particularly high peak, and it helped Ash reach the Lumiose Conference final. Greninja ultimately lost to Alain’s Mega Charizard X and did not return to Ash’s Masters Eight lineup. Its high placement reflects its peak form and major Kalos run, not an undefeated record.
3. Charizard
Once Ash helped Charizard overcome its disobedience, it became one of his most important battlers. It delivered a decisive win against Gary at the Silver Conference and later contributed in the Battle Frontier. Charizard also helped train Gengar before the Masters Eight, but it did not compete in that tournament.
4. Lucario
Ash’s Riolu evolved into a top-level battler, and Mega Lucario helped him secure key Masters Eight victories against Cynthia. It later fainted in the match against Leon. The distinction matters: those tournament feats belong specifically to Mega Lucario. The Pokémon Company describes Mega Evolution as requiring a strong trainer–Pokémon bond, the trainer’s Mega Ring and the Pokémon’s Mega Stone; under normal circumstances, it does not occur. 5. Sceptile
Sceptile’s clearest signature achievement is defeating Tobias’s Darkrai at the Lily of the Valley Conference—one of Ash’s most notable individual upset wins. Sceptile then lost to Tobias’s Latios. It has also encountered powerful Pokémon such as Deoxys and Regirock, but those encounters should not be counted as victories across the board.
Rank #2

- Dimensions: approx. 5.5 x 1.5 x 2.5 cm

6. Gengar
Gigantamax Gengar earned two substantial Masters Eight wins, defeating Marnie’s Gigantamax Grimmsnarl and Leon’s Inteleon. It then lost to Leon’s Mr. Rime after losing its Gigantamax status. Those tournament results give Gengar unusually clear evidence against elite opponents; placing it below Sceptile is a matter of how the accomplishments are weighed, not an official verdict.
7. Infernape
Ash raised Infernape from the Chimchar that Paul abandoned, and its strongest cited head-to-head result is defeating Paul’s Electivire in their later matchup. In Journeys, Infernape challenged Moltres and lost; the encounter shows ambition, but it is not a win to add to its record.
8. Goodra
Goodra defeated Clemont’s Luxray and overcame a type disadvantage against Florges during its Kalos run. It rejoined Ash for the Lumiose Conference before returning to the wetlands. Its achievements are strong, but concentrated in Kalos rather than spread across a longer later tournament record.
9. Incineroar
Incineroar’s case includes its growth from Litten through Torracat. Torracat lost to Professor Kukui’s Incineroar, then evolved and defeated that same opponent in a rematch. That reversal is a concrete achievement; speculation that Ash might have benefited from using Incineroar in the World Coronation Series is not a battle result.

10. Hawlucha
Hawlucha was a determined part of Ash’s Kalos team and earned wins against strong Pokémon in its forest habitat. It also lost to Korrina’s Mega Lucario and Alain’s Bisharp. Its inclusion recognizes consistency and team value, while its lower position reflects those losses and the particularly high-profile feats of the Pokémon above it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is Ash’s strongest Pokémon besides Pikachu?
Greninja has the strongest alternative case in this ranking: Ash-Greninja’s form raised its peak performance, and it played a major role in Ash’s Kalos run. Charizard and Lucario also have compelling cases, through major conference and Battle Frontier results for Charizard, and Mega Lucario’s Masters Eight wins against Cynthia. Their feats come from different eras and battle formats, so there is no single shared test that settles the comparison.
Why this order is debatable
The ranking follows TVLine’s May 2, 2026 ordering, but neither the anime nor Pokémon Support establishes an official top 10 for Ash. Different weightings can change the order: a reader who values tournament results may favor Gengar or Lucario, while one who emphasizes a single upset may put greater weight on Sceptile’s win over Darkrai. The evidence supports comparing accomplishments, not treating the numbers as a canonical power scale.
