What did Elden Ring win at the D.I.C.E. Awards?
The official results list Elden Ring as the winner in five categories:
- Game of the Year
- Role-Playing Game of the Year
- Outstanding Achievement in Game Design
- Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction
- Outstanding Technical Achievement
That five-award count comes from the Academy’s category list for the 26th annual ceremony. The list also shows God of War Ragnarök winning Adventure Game of the Year and Vampire Survivors winning Action Game of the Year, among other category results. What does the Game of the Year award mean?
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences defines Game of the Year as the single game its membership votes best at using the medium to entertain users, regardless of system or delivery mechanism. The award is a recognition by the Academy’s membership, not a sales ranking, review score, or prediction of whether a particular player will enjoy the game. Does the D.I.C.E. result prove an ongoing Game of the Year streak?
No. The Academy’s results establish that Elden Ring won Game of the Year at this ceremony, but they do not list or define a cross-ceremony streak. GamesBeat used the “continues Game of the Year streak” framing in its February 24, 2023 event coverage.
