Elegoo Jupiter 2 Review: Is Its Huge 16K Resin Capacity Worth the Learning Curve?

By VGSources Team 9 min read

The Elegoo Jupiter 2 is a large-format 16K resin printer built for users who need unusually tall, wide or numerous prints in one job. Its 302.40 × 161.98 × 300.00 mm build space, automatic resin feeding and heated vat make it ambitious, but a two-week GamesRadar+ review found that achieving reliable results required more groundwork and setting adjustments than with several other recent printers. It makes the most sense for experienced resin users with projects large enough to justify its price and operating demands.

What the Elegoo Jupiter 2 is

The Jupiter 2 is a masked stereolithography (MSLA) resin printer positioned around capacity rather than compact convenience. ELEGOO publishes a 302 × 162 × 300 mm build volume; its April 2025 announcement gives the more precise figure as 302.40 × 161.98 × 300.00 mm. That is the space available for a single model or a densely arranged batch, before accounting for supports and the clearances required around each part.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

ELEGOO also specifies a 15120 × 6230 pixel LCD and 20 × 26 μm XY resolution. Those are hardware specifications, not a promise that every model will show identical visible detail. Exposure settings, resin behavior, support design, orientation, temperature and post-processing still determine whether the printer turns that pixel density into clean surfaces and sharp edges.

Specification Published value How to interpret it
Build volume 302 × 162 × 300 mm Large working envelope for tall pieces or many smaller parts
More precise announced volume 302.40 × 161.98 × 300.00 mm ELEGOO figure published in April 2025
LCD resolution 15120 × 6230 pixels 16K-class masking display specification
XY resolution 20 × 26 μm Published pixel-size detail in the X and Y axes

The dimensions matter more than the “16K” label for most buyers. A larger machine lets you print a terrain section, a large creature, a prop component or a full batch of miniatures without splitting the job across several plates. If your normal projects fit comfortably in a smaller printer, the extra capacity may spend most of its time unused.

Features and automation

ELEGOO describes several workflow features intended to reduce manual intervention. They should be read as manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

Feature ELEGOO’s description Practical implication
Auto-leveling Automatic platform leveling Reduces the amount of manual calibration before a print, provided the platform and vat are correctly installed
Heated vat Vat heating to 30 °C Helps maintain a controlled resin temperature when the surrounding room is cooler
Smart mechanical sensor Sensor-based monitoring Designed to detect relevant mechanical or material conditions during operation
Camera monitoring and timelapse Built-in camera functions Lets you check progress remotely or create a timelapse where the supported software workflow permits it
Automatic resin feeding Automated filling and recycling workflow Reduces the need to pour resin manually during a long job
Quick-swap film Replaceable film system intended for faster changes Can shorten vat-film maintenance when the release film needs replacement
Power-loss recovery Recovery after an interruption Designed to resume a print after an outage rather than discarding the entire job

The auto-feed system is designed around ELEGOO’s 2 kg resin bottles. That bottle format can be useful for large jobs because it reduces refilling frequency. The available evidence does not establish universal compatibility with every third-party resin bottle, bottle geometry or formulation, so confirm the physical fit and printer profile before buying bulk resin from another supplier.

What the independent review found

GamesRadar+ tested a manufacturer-provided sample for two weeks. The review included small tabletop miniatures as well as larger terrain and monster models, giving the reviewer an opportunity to use both the printer’s detail capability and its unusually large platform.

Strengths reported by GamesRadar+

  • Very large capacity: The review treated the build area as a major advantage for large models and high-volume batches.
  • Strong detail: Small miniatures and surface features came out with the level of definition expected from a high-resolution resin machine.
  • Convenient resin handling: Automatic filling and the ability to recycle resin reduced the amount of direct handling, especially after a failed print.

Where the review was cautious

The reviewer said good results demanded more careful preparation and settings adjustment than other recent printers they had tested. That is an observation from one two-week review, not a measured failure rate or a guarantee that every owner will have the same experience. It does, however, change the buying question: the Jupiter 2 offers more room to work, but it may not be the most forgiving path for someone learning resin printing for the first time.

How to plan a first Jupiter 2 print

The machine’s automation does not eliminate the decisions that determine resin-print success. Use a deliberate workflow before committing a large bottle of resin or an all-day job.

  1. Choose a suitable location. Put the printer on a rigid, level surface with room to open the cover, remove the build platform and access the vat. Resin printing also requires ventilation and a protected work area because liquid resin and cleaning solvents are messy and hazardous to handle casually.
  2. Inspect the vat and film. Check that the vat is seated correctly, the release film is clean and undamaged, and no cured fragment remains from an earlier failure. A small piece of cured resin can interfere with the next layer or damage the film.
  3. Install the build platform and run the leveling procedure. Use the printer’s auto-leveling process as directed on its current firmware and confirm that the platform is secure. Auto-leveling cannot compensate for a loose platform, contamination between surfaces or an incorrectly installed vat.
  4. Prepare the resin feed. Use the supported bottle arrangement, check the feed path and confirm that the resin can flow before starting a long print. For a third-party bottle, verify fit and material compatibility rather than assuming that the 2 kg format is universal.
  5. Condition the resin. Allow the material to reach a suitable working temperature. The vat is specified to heat to 30 °C, but the printer’s heater does not make every resin formulation interchangeable or automatically correct exposure settings.
  6. Slice for the actual model. Orient the part to control suction and support load, add supports where needed and select a resin profile that matches the material. Large objects often benefit from hollowing and drain planning, while miniature parts require careful support placement to protect fine details.
  7. Run a small validation print. Before filling the entire build area, print a test object or a small section using the chosen settings. Confirm adhesion, exposure, supports and dimensional behavior before committing to a large terrain piece or a full plate of miniatures.
  8. Monitor the opening layers. Use the camera feature if your connected workflow supports it, but still inspect the physical printer. Early adhesion problems are easier to correct than a failure discovered after many hours.
  9. Post-process methodically. Once the print is complete, remove it with appropriate tools, wash and cure it according to the resin maker’s instructions, and keep uncured resin out of drains and ordinary household waste.

This sequence is intentionally conservative. The GamesRadar+ report’s learning-curve comments make a test print especially valuable: it turns a setting problem into a small, inexpensive correction instead of a failed large-format job.

Print quality: what 16K does and does not tell you

The 15120 × 6230 display and 20 × 26 μm XY specification indicate a fine pixel grid for each layer. That can support crisp lettering, facial features, panel lines and other small details on tabletop models. It does not describe the printer’s Z-axis layer height, exposure window or mechanical behavior, so it cannot by itself predict the finish on a particular resin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For large models, detail also depends on scale. A tiny miniature may reveal more of the pixel-level advantage than a broad surface whose finish is dominated by support marks, layer exposure and post-processing. On a large terrain piece, the Jupiter 2’s capacity may be more important than the difference between two closely related resolution classes because avoiding a split model can remove seams and assembly work.

Resin, feeding and cleanup considerations

Resin is a required operating consumable, not an optional accessory. The auto-feed design is intended for ELEGOO’s 2 kg bottle setup, which suits owners who print frequently or produce large parts. Buying in that size can reduce interruptions, but it also means storing more uncured material and planning how to handle leftovers safely.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The available product information does not verify broad compatibility across third-party brands or formulations. Resin chemistry affects exposure, viscosity, shrinkage, flexibility and the temperature at which the material flows well. If you change resin, treat it as a new process: use the supplier’s recommended profile, run a validation print and record the settings that work for your room and model style.

Automatic feeding can reduce pouring and can make recovery from a failed print less wasteful, but it does not remove the need to inspect the vat. Cured debris, a torn film or an overfilled vat can still create a mechanical problem. Keep gloves, absorbent material and a properly labeled waste container available before opening the machine.

Who should buy the Jupiter 2?

Buyer situation Fit Reason
Regularly prints large single parts Strong fit The 302.40 × 161.98 × 300.00 mm envelope can reduce splitting and assembly
Produces many miniatures or terrain pieces per job Strong fit The broad platform can hold a large batch, subject to support and resin limits
Already understands resin exposure and supports Better fit Experience helps address the careful setup and adjustment reported in the review
New to resin printing Approach carefully The independent review found it less forgiving than other recent printers tested
Prints only occasional small objects Questionable value The extra capacity may not offset the larger purchase and operating footprint
Wants a completely hands-off process Limited fit Automation assists feeding, leveling and monitoring, but settings, inspection and post-processing remain necessary

The strongest case is practical rather than numerical: buy it when your normal projects regularly exceed the useful capacity of a smaller resin printer. If you only need that volume once or twice a year, renting time, outsourcing a part or using a smaller machine may be a more proportionate solution.

Price and availability snapshots

Two published price snapshots show why the Jupiter 2’s cost must be checked at the time and in the region where you plan to buy.

Source and timing Listed price or status Qualification
GamesRadar+ review period in 2026 $949 / £799 Dated listing snapshot reported in the review
ELEGOO product page accessed in 2026 $1,011; page displayed “Sold out” Volatile manufacturer-page snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or general availability statement

These figures are not interchangeable quotes. Currency, seller, tax, shipping and stock can change the effective cost, and the two pages were observed at different times. Check the live seller page for your country before treating either amount as a purchase budget.

How to compare it with other resin printers

No head-to-head measurements for named competitors are established here, so a responsible comparison should use decision axes rather than an unsupported “best printer” claim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Usable build volume: Measure your largest recurring model, including support structures and clearance, rather than comparing only headline dimensions.
  • Resolution and detail: Compare XY resolution alongside the kind of parts you make. Miniatures, lettering and mechanical textures may benefit differently from a fine pixel grid.
  • Setup demands: Look for independent evidence about leveling, exposure tuning, support sensitivity and recovery from failed prints. Manufacturer automation lists are not the same as long-term reliability measurements.
  • Resin workflow: Check bottle format, feeding, vat cleaning, film replacement and how easily you can switch materials.
  • Total cost: Include resin, cleaning supplies, protective equipment, replacement film and the price difference between current in-stock listings.
  • Workspace: A large printer needs a stable surface and practical room for the cover, platform, resin bottles and post-processing equipment.

Using those criteria prevents the Jupiter 2’s 16K label from overshadowing the question that matters: whether its capacity and workflow save enough time on your projects to justify the higher commitment.

Advantages and limitations

Advantages

  • Large 302.40 × 161.98 × 300.00 mm-class build space.
  • High-resolution 15120 × 6230 pixel display specification and published 20 × 26 μm XY resolution.
  • Manufacturer-described auto-leveling, 30 °C vat heating, monitoring, timelapse, auto-feed, quick-swap film and power-loss recovery.
  • Automatic filling and recycling can reduce manual resin handling during large jobs and failed-print cleanup.
  • Capacity suited to large terrain, monsters, props and dense miniature batches.

Limitations

  • A two-week GamesRadar+ review found setup and settings adjustment comparatively demanding.
  • Automation does not replace exposure calibration, support design, vat inspection or post-processing.
  • Broad compatibility with third-party 2 kg bottles and resin formulations is not established.
  • Published prices vary by time and seller, and one manufacturer-page snapshot showed the printer sold out.
  • The large footprint and resin volume make it excessive for buyers whose projects are normally small.

Verdict: should you buy the Elegoo Jupiter 2?

Buy the Jupiter 2 if you routinely need a large resin build area, print batches of small parts, or already know how to tune exposure and supports. Its published capacity is the central reason to choose it, while auto-feeding, vat heating and monitoring can make long jobs less hands-on.

Be more cautious if you are new to resin printing, print only occasional small models or expect automation to deliver reliable results without calibration. GamesRadar+’s two-week experience suggests that the Jupiter 2 rewards preparation and experience more than a plug-and-play mindset. Confirm the current regional price, stock and resin-bottle compatibility before ordering, then budget time for a controlled test print before starting a major project.
