Elegoo Jupiter 2 review: Is this large resin printer worth the space and price?

By VGSources Team 10 min read

Verdict: The Elegoo Jupiter 2 makes the most sense for experienced resin-printing hobbyists who regularly need very large parts or want to batch many smaller models. Its 302 × 162 × 300 mm build volume, heated vat, automatic resin feeding and recovery, camera, and 16K monochrome LCD address real workflow problems. The trade-off is a large, heavy and expensive machine that, according to one two-week hands-on review, can demand more careful calibration than some competing printers.

That makes the Jupiter 2 a specialist tool rather than an automatic recommendation for every maker. If you mostly print miniatures occasionally, a smaller machine is easier to house and cheaper to risk. If you print one-piece props, large terrain, monster models or production batches, the Jupiter 2’s capacity can justify its footprint.

What the Elegoo Jupiter 2 is designed to do

The Jupiter 2 is a large-format masked-resin (MSLA) 3D printer. Its defining specification is a 302 × 162 × 300 mm build volume. Elegoo says that is 2.5 times the volume of its Saturn 4, giving the Jupiter 2 room for objects that would need to be split on a smaller printer, or for several smaller models in one batch.

That capacity changes the buying question. You are not paying primarily for a small increase in miniature detail; you are paying for fewer cuts, joins and repeat print runs. A full-size object can still create a practical extraction problem: Elegoo notes that removing a very large print may require taking out the resin tank first. Plan access around the tank and the finished model, not just the headline volume.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Best-fit projects

  • Large cosplay and prop components that are awkward to divide.
  • Terrain sections, busts and monster models that exceed typical desktop resin dimensions.
  • Batch production of miniatures or multi-part kits.
  • Users who want automatic resin replenishment during long jobs.

When the volume is unnecessary

If your normal jobs fit comfortably in a smaller vat, the Jupiter 2’s capacity becomes unused floor space and unused resin capacity. A smaller printer is generally simpler to move, easier to position and less expensive to replace if your interest in resin printing fades.

Specifications that matter in practice

Feature Elegoo’s stated figure or feature What it means for a buyer
Build volume 302 × 162 × 300 mm Suitable for large single pieces and high-volume batches; check removal clearance because a full-size print may require removing the vat.
LCD 14-inch 16K monochrome LCD Provides a large exposure area and long-term monochrome-panel benefits, but does not by itself guarantee perfect prints.
Pixel resolution 15,120 × 6,230 pixels High nominal image resolution across the large screen.
XY resolution 20 × 26 μm Supports fine layer-plane detail; resin, exposure, orientation and supports still determine the visible result.
Maximum speed 90 mm/h, as listed by GamesRadar+ in its July 2026 review Useful for estimating throughput, but maximum speed is not a promise that every resin and model can run at that setting.
Vat heating 30 °C target temperature Can make resin behavior more consistent in a cool workspace, while hot rooms still affect exposure and curing.
Resin container Elegoo 2 kg bottle The automatic feed system is designed around this bottle format; confirm compatibility before substituting another container.
Leveling Four force sensors for multi-point auto-leveling; manual leveling with feedback Reduces some setup work, although it does not remove the need to calibrate exposure and supports.
Service parts Quick-swap release film and modular LCD replacement Those modules are intended to make routine replacement less disruptive; current parts availability and warranty terms should be checked before purchase.

What “16K” does—and does not—tell you

“16K” describes the LCD’s pixel count: 15,120 × 6,230 according to Elegoo. Because those pixels cover a very large 14-inch screen, the stated XY resolution is 20 × 26 μm. That is an impressive specification for fine edges, lettering and surface texture.

It is not a complete print-quality guarantee. Resin formulation, exposure time, lift settings, model orientation, support placement, temperature and cleaning all affect the result. A highly detailed screen image cannot rescue a model that is poorly supported or exposed outside the resin’s useful range.

GamesRadar+ reviewer Benjamin Abbott reported attractive detail on miniatures, terrain and larger monster models. He also reported more failed prints than with other recent printers he had tested and stressed that careful setting calibration was especially important. Those are observations from a two-week review using a manufacturer sample, not a controlled failure-rate study.

Automatic resin handling and the day-to-day workflow

Heated vat

The vat is specified to reach 30 °C. Heating can help keep resin viscosity and curing behavior steadier when the room is cool. It does not eliminate the need to follow the resin maker’s exposure guidance, and it cannot compensate for unusually hot ambient conditions.

Two-way pump and bottle monitoring

The Jupiter 2 uses a two-way pump for automatic feeding and recovery. Elegoo describes automatic replenishment from a 2 kg bottle, bottle-level alerts and the ability to pump resin back out of the vat. The practical benefit is less manual pouring before a long job and less resin left exposed when you finish or need to stop.

Abbott specifically found auto-fill useful and said the printer could recover most resin by pumping it out after a failure. That reduces cleanup, but it is not a guarantee that every drop will be recovered or that every bottle will feed reliably. Use the specified bottle format and inspect tubing, seals and the vat after moving the machine.

Camera and power-loss recovery

A built-in camera gives you a way to check progress without opening the enclosure. Power-loss recovery is intended to resume a job after an interruption. Neither feature replaces an occasional physical inspection: a failed first layer or leaking vat can continue causing damage while a camera is pointed at the wrong area.

What the hands-on review found

GamesRadar+ published Benjamin Abbott’s review on July 17, 2026, after two weeks with a manufacturer-supplied Jupiter 2 in a shed. He printed small Dungeons & Dragons miniatures, terrain and larger monsters. His positive findings were consistent with the printer’s purpose: the large platform accommodated batches and large pieces, detail was good, and the resin feed and suction-recovery functions were genuinely useful.

The same review described the machine as bulky and very heavy. Positioning it safely was a significant consideration, not a minor inconvenience. Abbott also encountered more failures than with other recent printers he had used and found that settings required careful dialing-in. He noted water-washable resin and unusually hot conditions as possible factors, so the results should not be read as a universal defect rate.

The review’s overall recommendation was aimed at experienced hobbyists rather than beginners. That conclusion reflects one reviewer’s experience, but it aligns with the practical demands of a large resin system: more resin to manage, more mass to move, greater consequences if a job fails, and more value in already knowing how to tune exposure and supports.

Setup, calibration and operating considerations

The automatic leveling hardware can reduce mechanical leveling chores, but the printer still needs a disciplined calibration process. Before committing to a large, expensive model, use the resin and environment you actually intend to run and establish a reliable exposure profile.

  1. Prepare the location. Choose a rigid, level surface that can support a very heavy printer and leave enough clearance to open the machine, remove the vat and handle a large finished part.
  2. Position the resin system. Install the intended 2 kg bottle and check that the feed and return lines are not kinked. Confirm that the bottle and vat are seated before enabling automatic pumping.
  3. Run the leveling procedure. Use the Jupiter 2’s multi-point auto-leveling and its feedback-guided manual process if the machine requests adjustment. Do not assume a previous move preserved the same alignment.
  4. Calibrate exposure with a small test. Tune exposure, lift and support settings for the resin and room temperature before filling the entire platform with a production job.
  5. Inspect the first layers. Use the camera for remote progress checks, but verify adhesion and resin flow physically when starting a new material or after maintenance.
  6. Plan removal. For a model near the maximum dimensions, make sure you can safely remove the build plate and, if necessary, the vat before starting.

The exact values are resin- and environment-dependent. A setting that works in a cool workshop may not behave the same way in a hot shed, and Abbott’s review is a reminder that the Jupiter 2 rewards deliberate calibration rather than “load and forget” operation.

Maintenance and replaceable parts

Elegoo lists quick-swap release film and a modular LCD. Those choices are valuable on a large printer because film damage and LCD wear eventually become ownership issues, not theoretical possibilities. Keep the vat clean, inspect the film after failed prints and avoid curing debris against the screen.

The manufacturer’s US parts and warranty information names Jupiter 2 release film and LCD components. Availability, pricing and warranty coverage can change, so check the current regional listing before assuming a replacement is immediately obtainable. Automatic resin recovery also deserves routine inspection: a leak or blocked line can undermine the convenience the system is meant to provide.

Size, weight and workspace planning

The published build volume is not the printer’s external footprint. You need additional room for the enclosure, opening the cover, removing the build plate, handling the resin bottle and safely extracting a large object. Because the independent review calls the Jupiter 2 very heavy, treat delivery and placement as a two-person planning problem unless you have confirmed a safe alternative.

  • Measure doorways, stairs and the final bench before ordering.
  • Use a rigid support that will not flex during leveling or printing.
  • Leave clearance to remove the vat for an oversized model.
  • Store resin and cleaning supplies where spills cannot reach electronics.
  • Use appropriate ventilation and protective handling practices for resin; an optional workspace enclosure does not replace safe ventilation.

Price and ownership value

Elegoo’s US product listing showed $949 on October 13, 2026, with a crossed-out reference figure of $1,299. GamesRadar+ listed $949 in the United States and £799 in its July 2026 review. These are time- and region-sensitive figures, so verify the current local price, shipping and taxes before buying.

At roughly the thousand-dollar level, the Jupiter 2 needs to save meaningful time or enable projects that a smaller printer cannot handle. Factor in resin, cleaning supplies, replacement film, a potential LCD replacement, ventilation and a wash-and-cure setup. Elegoo lists the Mercury Plus V3.0 among related accessories; check its capacity against your largest parts rather than assuming a compact wash-and-cure unit can process every Jupiter 2 print.

The US listing showed five customer reviews at the time of access, including both a report of feed and resin leakage problems and a positive account describing roughly 50–60 large or multi-part prints. That small, self-selected set cannot establish a reliability rate. Treat it as anecdotal context, not a statistical warranty.

Jupiter 2 or a smaller Saturn-class printer?

The most meaningful comparison is capacity versus convenience. Elegoo says the Jupiter 2 has 2.5 times the volume of the Saturn 4. GamesRadar+ listed a 90 mm/h maximum for the Jupiter 2 and compared it with 150 mm/h for the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. Those speed figures come from the review and should be checked against the current specifications of any competing model revision.

Choose the Jupiter 2 when… Choose a smaller Saturn-class machine when…
You routinely need 302 × 162 × 300 mm of usable space or want to batch many models. Your normal parts fit a smaller platform and you value a smaller workspace commitment.
Automatic feeding, resin recovery and a heated vat would remove recurring manual work. You prefer lower upfront cost and less resin exposed in a failed job.
You already understand exposure, supports and resin handling. You are learning resin printing and want a more forgiving first machine.
You can safely move and support a very heavy printer. You need equipment that is easier to carry, position or relocate.

Is the Jupiter 2 suitable for beginners?

It can be operated by a beginner, but the evidence does not make it an ideal first resin printer. The auto-leveling, camera and resin pump remove several repetitive tasks, yet they do not teach exposure calibration, support design, failed-print cleanup or safe resin handling. The larger vat also increases the amount of material involved when something goes wrong.

Abbott advised beginners to steer clear after finding the printer less forgiving than some rivals. An experienced user who understands those trade-offs can benefit from the automation; a newcomer may spend more money and face more frustrating failures before developing the necessary routines.

Who should buy the Elegoo Jupiter 2?

Buy it if your projects are volume-limited

The strongest case is a repeated need for large single parts or dense batches. If splitting a prop creates visible seams or doubles your print schedule, the Jupiter 2’s build area can pay back its cost in saved joins and operator time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy it if resin handling is a major bottleneck

The heated vat, automatic feed, level alerts and two-way recovery are meaningful if you run long jobs and dislike manually pouring and storing resin. They are conveniences, not substitutes for inspection and maintenance.

Skip it if you are experimenting casually

For occasional miniature printing, the cost, mass and setup sensitivity are difficult to justify. Start with a smaller machine or gain resin-printing experience first, then move to this format when your projects demonstrate the need.

Final verdict

The Elegoo Jupiter 2 is a capable large-format resin printer whose identity is defined by capacity and workflow automation. Elegoo’s 302 × 162 × 300 mm volume, 16K LCD, 30 °C heated vat and automatic two-way resin system make it unusually well suited to big parts and high-output batches. The independent hands-on review supports those strengths, while also reporting a heavy chassis, more demanding calibration and more failed prints than the reviewer’s other recent machines.

Experienced makers with the space, budget and genuine need for this build volume should consider it seriously. Newcomers and occasional users should weigh a smaller, simpler printer first; the Jupiter 2 is best understood as an investment in scale, not an effortless entry point.
