Ember Knights is an action roguelite for solo play or co-op with up to four players. You battle through corrupted worlds and shape each run with weapons, skills and relics. It is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PS5; confirmed online crossplay is specifically between Xbox consoles and Xbox on PC.
What is Ember Knights?
Developed by Doom Turtle and published by Twin Sails Interactive, Ember Knights is a run-based action roguelite. Its story follows a quest to stop the sorcerer Praxis, who has drained the Ember Tree and spread corruption across four Prime Worlds. Runs take players through combat rooms toward enemies and bosses, while weapons, skills and relics shape each build. The Steam description emphasizes chaining attacks, timing swings, dodging, countering and stunning enemies; these are the publisher’s descriptions of the combat, not independent performance or review findings.
Steam records the full release on July 18, 2023, following Early Access from April 20, 2022. Doom Turtle’s timeline says version 1.0 arrived on Steam and Nintendo Switch in July 2023. Official Xbox and US PlayStation listings give October 16, 2025 release dates for their console editions. The Steam game listing, accessed in 2026, advertises the following content counts. These are publisher-provided figures, not independently measured totals.

Which platforms support co-op, and is there crossplay?
The game supports up to four players, but platform listings describe different co-op options. Crossplay is confirmed between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC; the available sources do not establish it for Switch or PlayStation.

In an interview published October 22, 2025, Doom Turtle COO Brad Evans said: “That’s why Ember Knights: Heroes of the Nexus Edition, released on October 16, includes full local co-op, online multiplayer and online crossplay between PC and Xbox Series X|S.” This describes the Xbox and PC crossplay scope; it should not be read as confirmation of crossplay with Switch or PS5. For a group choosing where to play, check whether you need local or online co-op and whether everyone owns a supported platform combination. Nintendo’s listing confirms local play, while Xbox’s crossplay statement is limited to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. The sources cited here do not verify online co-op on Switch or PS5 crossplay.

What is included in Heroes of the Nexus Edition?
Wrath of the Architect is the game’s first DLC, dated October 2024 in Doom Turtle’s developer timeline. Steam lists the expansion separately from the base game, while Xbox and PlayStation describe Heroes of the Nexus Edition as including it. The Xbox store description says the expansion adds a new final boss, four bosses, four minibosses, two weapons and nine skills. Check the specific edition and regional storefront before buying: inclusion in these console edition descriptions does not mean every copy of the base game includes the DLC.

How to verify availability and edition details
- Open the official store for your platform and region. The linked Nintendo page is for the UK; the PlayStation link is for the US, and store availability or edition contents can vary by region.
- Check the product page for the exact edition name and whether Wrath of the Architect is included or sold separately.
- For multiplayer, verify the mode you need on that platform’s listing. Do not assume that crossplay or online co-op on one edition applies to every edition.
