- A general-purpose DLL folder created manually
The Win64 part indicates a 64-bit Windows build. Some software packages also contain a separate 32-bit file named EOSSDK-Win32-Shipping.dll. A 32-bit DLL cannot replace the 64-bit file, and a copy taken from another game may not be compatible even when the filename is identical.
Some file listings identify a 64-bit version as 1.2.0.0 with a size of about 9.51 MB. Those details should not be treated as a universal current version or a compatibility test. EOS builds can differ between games, engine versions, updates, and distribution channels.
What the error usually means
The filename in the error does not always identify the real cause. Windows may show that a named DLL is missing when:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The game’s copy was deleted or quarantined.
- The file is damaged or incomplete.
- A dependency required by the DLL is missing.
- The game is loading files from the wrong installation.
- A 32-bit and 64-bit component are being mixed.
- An update installed incompatible game files.
- A mod, overlay, or security policy changed the loading behavior.
- The game’s EOS integration is crashing after the DLL has already loaded.
Common messages include:
The code execution cannot proceed because EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
The EOS SDK could not be found. Please reinstall the application.
EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll could not be loaded

You may also see:
plugins failed to load EOSSDK-WIN64-Shipping.dll with error 0x7e
Windows error 126 and hexadecimal error 0x7e generally mean that a required module could not be found. The missing module may be the named EOS file, but it may also be a dependency that EOS needs.
A message saying the file is “not designed to run on Windows” can indicate corruption, an architecture mismatch, an incompatible replacement, or a missing dependency. It does not prove that Windows itself is missing a system file.
Fix 1: Identify the affected game and verify its files
This is the quickest and most reliable repair for most cases. File verification compares the installed game with the launcher’s known files and restores missing or changed components.
Epic Games Launcher
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find the affected game.
- Select the three dots beside the game title.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the game without mods or third-party overlays.
Verification normally repairs missing or changed files without removing saved data. The download size depends on what is damaged or absent.
If the launcher reports that verification completed successfully but the error remains:
- Close the game.
- Exit Epic Games Launcher from its notification-area icon.
- Restart the computer.
- Open the launcher again.
- Run verification a second time.
- Temporarily disable unofficial mods, injectors, reshade packages, and custom overlays.
- Try the game again.
If the file disappears again after verification, proceed to the antivirus section rather than repeatedly copying it back.
Steam
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait until Steam completes the scan.
- Restart Steam.
- Start the game from its normal Steam shortcut.
Steam may report that some files failed verification and will be reacquired. That is expected when the EOS DLL or another game component is missing.
If the verification process completes but the game still cannot load, open the game’s installation folder and check whether the file is present in the location expected by that game. Do not move it to another directory simply because a search finds it elsewhere.
Other launchers
For another store or launcher, use its equivalent repair, verify, scan, or validate command. The important point is to repair the copy belonging to the affected game. Reinstalling the Epic Games Launcher alone may not restore a private EOS SDK file bundled inside a Steam or other-store game.
How to tell whether this fix worked
The repair worked if:
- The game starts normally.
- The original error no longer appears.
- The file remains in the game’s own directory.
- The launcher no longer reports damaged files.
If the game starts but crashes later, the problem may no longer be a missing DLL. Record the new crash message because it may indicate an EOS integration bug, mod conflict, driver issue, or unrelated game failure.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a game DLL after a scan, update, or change in detection rules. This is especially likely when the game worked previously and the file vanishes immediately after being restored.
Do not automatically approve the file. A DLL that is required by a game can still be malicious if the game installation itself was modified or obtained from an untrusted source.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Inspect the detection
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection associated with the game or DLL.
- Check the original file path.
- Check the detection name and action taken.
- Confirm that the path belongs to the legitimate game installation.
If the file came from the official game installer and the path is correct, use the available Restore action only after reviewing the detection. Microsoft notes that a restored file is inspected again by Defender. Restoring a file merely because the game needs it is not a sufficient safety check.
After restoration:
- Run the game launcher’s file verification.
- Update the game.
- Update Windows Security security intelligence.
- Launch the game again.
- Watch whether the file is quarantined a second time.
If the file is repeatedly removed, do not disable antivirus protection globally. Contact the game publisher and provide the detection name, game version, installation path, and verification result. A controlled exclusion may be appropriate only after the file and installation have been confirmed as legitimate and only for the specific game folder.
Check Controlled folder access
Windows ransomware protection can block an application from writing or modifying files.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Manage ransomware protection.
- Review Controlled folder access.
- If it is enabled, select Allow an app through Controlled folder access.
- Add the game executable or launcher only when you trust its source.
- Run file verification again.
Do not add an entire drive or broad system directory as an exception.

Fix 3: Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
The EOS DLL may be visible in the game folder but still fail to load because a dependent Microsoft Visual C++ runtime is missing or damaged. This is a common reason for a “module not found” message when the named file clearly exists.
Use Microsoft’s official Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
Choose the correct architecture
For a 64-bit game, install or repair:
vc_redist.x64.exe
For a 32-bit game running on 64-bit Windows, install or repair:
vc_redist.x86.exe
A 64-bit version of Windows can run both 64-bit and 32-bit programs. Therefore, installing only the x64 package is not enough for every game.
Do not remove every older Visual C++ package. Older applications may require older runtimes, and different packages can coexist.
Install or repair the runtime
- Download the appropriate package from Microsoft.
- Close the game and its launcher.
- Run the installer.
- Accept the license terms.
- If the installer offers Repair, select it.
- If it offers Install, complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Run game-file verification again.
- Start the game.
If the installer itself fails, use Microsoft’s Visual C++ installation troubleshooting guidance, then retry the repair.
You can also repair an installed package through Windows:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Open the menu beside the matching entry.
- Select Modify.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows.
Install both x64 and x86 packages when you use several games and are unsure which architecture each one requires.
How to tell whether the runtime was the cause
The Visual C++ repair likely addressed the problem if:
- The EOS DLL was already present.
- The error mentioned error
126or0x7e. - The game launches after the runtime repair without replacing the EOS DLL.
- Other applications that use the same runtime also stop reporting load errors.
If the file is genuinely absent, Visual C++ repair will not recreate it. Return to launcher verification or reinstall the affected game.
Fix 4: Install the game’s bundled redistributables
Many games include supporting installers in folders named _CommonRedist, Redist, Redistributables, or Support.
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Search for folders with those names.
- Look for Visual C++, DirectX, or other runtime installers.
- Run the installer that matches the game’s package.
- Choose Repair when offered.
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files.
- Test the game.
Use the bundled installer only when it is inside the legitimate game installation. Do not download a similarly named runtime from an unrelated website.

Fix 5: Check the EOS component separately
There are two related but different things that users often call “EOS”:
- The game-private
eossdk-win64-shipping.dll. - The separately installed Epic Online Services component used by some Epic-distributed games and the Epic Games Launcher.
Repairing the EOS component may help when the message refers to EOS installation, EOS availability, connection, or the launcher itself. It does not guarantee restoration of a missing game-private DLL.
Use the Epic Games Launcher prompt
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Settings.
- Look for an Epic Online Services installation prompt.
- Select Install Now when it is offered.
- Restart the launcher.
- Verify the affected game.
- Test the game.
Run the installer included with a game
Some Epic-distributed games include an EpicOnlineServices folder.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open the affected game’s installation directory.
- Open the
EpicOnlineServicesfolder if it exists. - Locate
EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe. - Run it as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Complete the installation or repair.
- Restart the computer.
- Verify the game files.
Do not search the internet for a replacement installer with the same filename. Use the copy supplied by the legitimate game installation or the launcher.
If Epic Online Services itself is damaged, Epic’s support procedure may involve removing the EOS component through Control Panel, then reopening the launcher so it can install it again. Follow the launcher’s current repair instructions and avoid deleting unrelated game folders.
Fix 6: Reinstall the affected game
Reinstalling is appropriate when verification cannot restore the file, the installation is incomplete, or the game repeatedly reports damaged files.
Before uninstalling, check whether the game stores saves locally. Many games use cloud synchronization, but that should not be assumed.
- Close the game and launcher.
- Confirm that cloud synchronization has completed.
- Uninstall the affected game from its launcher.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the game to a stable local drive.
- Let the installation finish without interruption.
- Run the launcher’s verification command.
- Start the game before reinstalling mods or overlays.
If possible, install the game to the same drive where the launcher is installed only when that drive has sufficient space and is reliable. An external or intermittently disconnected drive can produce repeated missing-file errors.
Reinstalling the game is more appropriate than copying a replacement DLL because it restores the exact EOS build selected by that game’s developer, together with its supporting files and expected directory structure.
Fix 7: Check for path, permissions, and mixed installations
A file can be present but unavailable to the game if the shortcut points to a different installation.
Confirm the executable path
- Right-click the game shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Target path.
- Compare it with the folder repaired by Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or another store.
- Start the game from the launcher instead of an old desktop shortcut.
Remove old shortcuts if you have installed the game more than once.
Check the expected file location
Use File Explorer to search within the game’s installation directory for:
EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll
A copy elsewhere on the computer is not a valid substitute. The game may require the file beside its own executable or inside a particular plugin directory.

Check access permissions
- Right-click the game’s main folder.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Security tab.
- Confirm that your Windows account has permission to read and execute files.
- Select Advanced if permissions appear unusual.
- Check whether inheritance is disabled or an explicit deny rule exists.
Do not change ownership or grant full control broadly unless you understand why the permissions are wrong. A normal game installation should not require aggressive permission changes.
Run the launcher or game as administrator
Running as administrator can help with a permissions or installer problem, but it is not a replacement for repairing the files.
- Right-click the game executable or launcher.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the game once.
If this makes no difference, revert the setting. Running every game permanently as administrator increases the impact of a compromised mod or executable.
Fix 8: Remove unofficial mods and overlays temporarily
Mods can replace binaries, alter search paths, inject into a game, or restore an older DLL after verification.
Temporarily remove or disable:
- Mod managers
- DLL injectors
- ReShade or similar graphics injectors
- Overlay software
- Custom launch parameters
- Experimental plugins
- Community patches that alter the game executable
Then:
- Verify the game files.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the unmodified game.
- Re-enable modifications one at a time only after the base game works.
If the error returns after enabling a particular mod, the mod is incompatible with the current game build. Contact that mod’s developer rather than replacing the EOS DLL manually.
Fix 9: Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs designed as self-registering COM components. Such a DLL must provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer and DllUnregisterServer.
Recommended Free Tools
EOS is a runtime library loaded by the game or engine. It is not documented as a COM server that needs registry registration. Running this command is therefore not an appropriate repair:
regsvr32 eossdk-win64-shipping.dll
It may produce an error saying that the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found. That result does not indicate that the EOS DLL is missing or needs a registry repair.
Do not use registry cleaners, manually edit DLL registration entries, or add the file to Windows startup.
Fix 10: Update Windows
Windows Update is relevant when installers, certificates, system components, or several unrelated programs are failing. It is not normally the source of this third-party game DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the game launcher’s verification process.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
You can also follow Microsoft’s Windows Update installation instructions.
Updating Windows will not normally recreate a game’s private EOS DLL. It is a supporting repair when the system has broader problems.
Fix 11: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when Windows itself shows signs of corruption, several programs fail to launch, or system repair tools report damaged protected files. They do not normally restore third-party game files.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Detailed instructions are available in Microsoft’s System File Checker and DISM guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsInterpret the result:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: protected Windows files appear intact.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and retest.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some: review the CBS log and continue with Microsoft’s repair guidance.
- DISM errors: check Windows Update, restart, and run the command again before assuming the game is damaged.
The key distinction is that SFC and DISM repair Windows components, not usually the EOS DLL inside a game directory.
Repeating SFC and DISM without recording what changed can make troubleshooting less clear. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it identifies, while repairs are performed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the affected game remains the definitive fix when the game’s private DLL is missing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 12: Update drivers only when the evidence points there
A driver reinstall is not a primary fix for a missing EOS SDK file. Consider drivers when the game’s crash report independently identifies a graphics, audio, network, or storage driver, or when several games fail with driver-related errors.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as:
- Display adapters
- Sound, video and game controllers
- Network adapters
- Storage controllers
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Device status message.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
For a normal update:
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not uninstall a working graphics, network, or storage driver merely because the EOS filename appears in a crash message. A game can report EOS as the faulting module when the actual problem is an integration bug or an invalid call made by the game.

Fix 13: Use System Restore only after game repair fails
System Restore is appropriate when the problem began after a broad system change and normal game, security, and runtime repairs did not help.
- Press
Windows key + R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Start the restore if the affected programs are acceptable.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the operation.
Microsoft explains System Restore in its System Restore guidance. It can revert system files, settings, and installed programs, but it does not normally remove personal files.
System Restore will not necessarily repair a broken game installation. Run launcher verification afterward.
When the file is present but the game still says it is missing
This situation usually indicates a dependency, path, permissions, architecture, or integrity problem.
Check each item in order:
- Confirm that the file is in the affected game’s own expected directory.
- Confirm that the shortcut launches that same installation.
- Check whether antivirus blocked the file or a related dependency.
- Install the matching x64 or x86 Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Remove unofficial mods and overlays.
- Verify the game files.
- Check whether the game executable itself is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Reinstall the affected game if verification cannot resolve the issue.
Do not use a DLL dependency scanner from an unknown source as your first repair method. Such utilities can produce confusing results and may encourage downloading individual files that are not compatible with the game.
Why random DLL download sites are unsafe
Downloading eossdk-win64-shipping.dll from a random DLL catalog is risky for several reasons:
- The file may contain malware.
- The version may belong to another game.
- The architecture may be wrong.
- The file may have incompatible exports or dependencies.
- The file may be modified or repackaged.
- It may hide the actual cause, such as antivirus quarantine or a damaged installation.
- Copying it to System32 can affect unrelated programs and make later diagnosis harder.
The safe sources are:
- The affected game’s official launcher verification process.
- The affected game’s original installer or repair package.
- An official EOS component installer supplied by the game or Epic launcher when that component is genuinely involved.
- Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable packages for runtime dependencies.
Epic’s developer SDK download is intended primarily for developers integrating EOS into their own applications. It is not a universal consumer replacement package for every game’s private DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Never copy the file from another game, even if both games use Unreal Engine or show the same filename.
What to do after a game update
If the error began immediately after an update:
- Restart Windows.
- Run file verification.
- Disable mods and overlays.
- Check Windows Security Protection history.
- Confirm that the launcher is updating the correct installation.
- Retry the game.
- Reinstall the game only if verification cannot repair it.
A faulty game update can install an incorrect path or incompatible library. Reinstalling Windows will not fix a defect in the game’s update. If the launcher reports that every file is valid and the error remains, contact the game developer with the exact error, game build, store, and log files.
What to do when the file disappears after every reinstall
Repeated disappearance usually points to something acting on the installation after repair.
Check for:
- Antivirus quarantine
- Controlled folder access
- Endpoint security software
- A mod manager restoring an older file
- A broken launcher cache
- An unreliable external drive
- Insufficient permissions
- A game update that removes the file incorrectly
Perform a clean test:
- Restore or verify the game.
- Do not install mods.
- Temporarily close overlays.
- Start the game once.
- Check whether the file still exists afterward.
- Review Protection history if it has disappeared.
- Record the time and detection name if security software removed it.
Do not repeatedly download replacement DLLs. If the legitimate file is continuously detected, send the game developer the detection details and ask whether the current build has been reported as a false positive.
When a crash names EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll
A crash naming this file does not prove that the DLL itself is defective. The game may have successfully loaded EOS and then crashed while calling it during startup, shutdown, networking, or account handling.
If the file is present and the message identifies an application fault such as 0xc0000005, use this order:
- Install the latest game patch.
- Verify the game files.
- Remove unofficial mods and overlays.
- Repair the matching Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Test with a clean game configuration.
- Submit the crash log and faulting-module information to the game developer.
A driver reinstall is appropriate only when the crash report also identifies a driver-related fault. The EOS filename alone is not enough evidence.
FAQ
Is eossdk-win64-shipping.dll part of Windows?
No. It is an Epic Online Services SDK runtime library bundled with a game or application. It is not a Windows driver, Windows component, or Microsoft Visual C++ DLL.
Is it the Epic Games Launcher?
Usually not. The file is commonly bundled by an individual game or Unreal Engine-based application. The launcher can also install a separate Epic Online Services component, but repairing that component does not always restore a game-private EOS DLL.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Win64 indicates a 64-bit Windows build. A separate Win32 build may exist for 32-bit applications. Use the architecture required by the affected game.
Where should the file be located?
Usually beside the game executable or inside the game’s plugin, engine, or platform binary directory. It should not ordinarily be copied to System32 or SysWOW64.
Can I download the file from a DLL website?
No. Use launcher verification, the original game installer, or an official component installer. Random downloads can be malicious, incompatible, or the wrong architecture.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Will installing Visual C++ always fix the error?
No. It helps when the EOS DLL or the game cannot load a required Visual C++ dependency. It does not restore a genuinely missing game file.
Does reinstalling Epic Online Services restore the DLL?
Not necessarily. The EOS service and the game-private EOS SDK DLL are separate components. Repair the affected game through its own launcher first.
Should I run regsvr32?
No. EOS is a runtime library, not a documented self-registering COM DLL. regsvr32 is not an appropriate fix.
Why does Windows say the file is missing when I can see it?
Windows may be unable to load a dependency, may be using a different installation path, or may be blocked by permissions, security software, or architecture mismatch.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Should I run SFC and DISM?
Run them when Windows has broader corruption symptoms or multiple unrelated applications fail. They repair protected Windows components and do not normally restore a game’s private EOS DLL.
Should I reinstall my graphics driver?
Not as a first step. Do so only when the crash evidence separately points to a graphics, audio, network, or storage driver problem.
Information to collect if the problem remains
Before contacting the game developer or store support, collect:
- The exact game or program name
- The store or launcher used
- The full error message
- Any numeric code, including
0x7e,126, or another value - The complete path shown in the error
- Whether
eossdk-win64-shipping.dllexists in that path - Whether the file disappears after restoration
- The Windows version shown by
winver - Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Installed x64 and x86 Visual C++ packages
- The result of launcher verification
- Any antivirus detection name
- Relevant launcher, game, or crash logs
This information distinguishes a missing game file from a dependency failure, security quarantine, architecture mismatch, and an actual EOS integration crash. For most users, the correct endpoint is game-file verification or a clean reinstall of the affected game, not a system-wide DLL replacement.
