Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer package
This is the most likely solution because the file belongs to an Epson printer-driver package.
Find the printer model
If you still have the printer:
- Check the label on the front, top, or rear of the printer.
- Open Settings with
Win+I. - Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Epson device name.
If the model is not obvious, select the printer and inspect its properties. You can also open Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound, then Devices and Printers.
Do not choose a driver merely because it says Epson. Epson has separate packages for different models, Windows releases, utilities, and processor architectures.
Remove the damaged installation
- Disconnect the printer from the PC, or turn it off.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for
Epson. - Uninstall Epson printer utilities, status monitors, scanners, and driver packages related to the affected printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Epson printer and choose Remove.
If the old driver remains:
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the obsolete Epson driver.
- Choose Remove.
- Select Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Restart again.
Only remove a driver when you are confident it belongs to the Epson printer you are repairing. Other printers can share print infrastructure.
Install the correct package
- Open Epson’s official printer-driver support page.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select your Windows version.
- Download the current printer driver or the complete Epson driver/software package.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Connect or turn on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup finishes.
- Print a Windows test page.
A successful repair normally means the Epson utility opens without the DLL message, the printer appears in Printers & scanners, and a test page prints. If the installer fails, repeat the removal steps and verify that you selected the exact model and Windows version.
For 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility, select the package offered for your Windows installation rather than guessing from the DLL filename. A 32-bit application can require 32-bit components, while a 64-bit driver package may contain AMD64 files. The filename alone does not establish the correct architecture.

Driver cleanup and model matching are tedious when several old packages are installed. Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a driver component after an update or scan. Do not restore the file automatically.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an Epson-related detection involving
EP0LVRA5.DLL. - Expand the entry and inspect its path and action.
- If it came from the official Epson installer and the installer provenance is trustworthy, use the available Restore or Allow action.
- Reinstall the Epson package afterward if the file is still absent.
- Run a full Windows Security scan.
If the file came from a DLL download sites site, an unknown archive, or an unexpected application folder, do not restore it. Remove that copy and reinstall Epson software from its official support page.
Fix 3: Remove stale Epson startup entries
A printer may work while an obsolete Epson utility still tries to load ep0lvra5.dll at sign-in.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for Epson entries associated with the removed printer.
- Select an obsolete entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.

Fix 4: Repair Windows component storage, then run SFC
DISM and SFC are secondary fixes here. They repair Windows components and protected system files, but they are not substitutes for reinstalling an Epson driver.

First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then run DISM before SFC:
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Epson utility or print a test page.
If DISM reports that it cannot repair the image, confirm that Windows Update is working and run the command again from an elevated Command Prompt. If SFC says it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test again. If it finds corruption but cannot repair everything, reinstall the Epson package and investigate the broader Windows repair result separately.
Manually repeating DISM and SFC can make it difficult to see what actually changed. Fix 5: Check the calling application and dependencies
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not prove that ep0lvra5.dll itself is missing. Windows can display that message when a dependency required by the Epson DLL cannot be loaded.
If the error appears only when starting a printer utility:
- Write down the executable named in the dialog or Event Viewer.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Repair or uninstall that Epson utility.
- Reinstall the Epson driver/software package for the exact printer.
- Restart and test the utility again.
If the message appears for an unrelated game or application, do not assume that application owns the file. It may be loading a printer-related component indirectly, or the message may be caused by a stale startup entry. Reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET merely because the missing item ends in .dll is not justified for this file.
Do not copy the DLL into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- The folder of a game or unrelated application
Windows uses defined DLL search locations, and placing an arbitrary copy in one of them can cause version conflicts or security problems. The correct location is determined by the Epson package and the application that loads it.

Usually, no. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that this Epson printer-driver component is such a DLL.

Running commands such as these is therefore not a general repair:
regsvr32 ep0lvra5.dll
If the command reports that the module could not be found, that does not diagnose the original cause. If it reports a missing entry point, the DLL is simply not designed for that registration method. Repair the Epson installation instead.

System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a driver update, Windows change, or software installation and normal Epson repair did not work.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose Next.
- Select a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the process.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can remove drivers and applications installed after the selected restore point. Afterward, install the correct Epson package rather than restoring an old standalone DLL.
If the error still returns
Collect these details before trying more repairs:
- Exact Epson printer model
- Windows edition and build
- The executable that displays the error
- The complete path shown for
ep0lvra5.dll - Whether the printer still prints
- Whether Windows Security quarantined the file
- The result of DISM and SFC
- Any Event Viewer entry linked to the failure
If reinstalling the correct package fails repeatedly, contact Epson support with that information. The failure may involve an unsupported Windows release, an architecture mismatch, a stale driver-store entry, or another dependency that the installer needs to restore.
FAQ
Is ep0lvra5.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is associated with Epson printer-driver software. It may appear inside an older Windows driver-store package, but that does not make it a core Windows DLL.
