“The program can’t start because ep0lvrag.dll is missing”

Which fix applies to you
- The error appears while printing, adding a printer, or opening Epson software: remove and reinstall the exact Epson printer driver.
- The problem began after a Windows upgrade or driver update: remove the old printer entry and driver package, then install a compatible package from Epson.
- Your antivirus recently quarantined the file: inspect quarantine, but restore it only when it is inside a verified Epson driver package.
- The printer was removed months ago, but the error still appears at startup: uninstall obsolete Epson software and remove its stale startup entry.
- Several Windows components are failing: run DISM and SFC after addressing the printer driver.
- You downloaded a replacement DLL already: do not copy it into
System32or an application folder. Remove it and reinstall the complete driver package instead.
What ep0lvrag.dll is
EP0LVRAG.DLL is identified in public file records as an Epson printer-driver component associated with SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION. It is described as part of an “EPSON Printer Driver” program, not as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, game library, or general Windows application DLL.
Older Epson packages using INF files such as prnep00l.inf and prnep001.inf are associated with Epson EPL-series printers. Public records connect prnep00l.inf with models including the EPL-6100L, EPL-N7000, EPL-N3000, and EPL-2020. The DLL name alone cannot identify the exact printer model on your computer.
Windows may stage the file in its Driver Store because Windows stores and manages third-party printer drivers there. That does not mean Microsoft wrote the file or that it is a core Windows component. A reported historical location is similar to:

Treat the reported version, file size, and architecture details as historical metadata rather than a target for manual replacement. Public records disagree about whether particular builds are 32-bit or associated with x64 packages. The correct architecture depends on the complete Epson driver package, the printer, and the Windows installation.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer driver
This is the most likely solution when the error appears during printing, printer setup, or an Epson utility launch.
1. Identify the affected printer
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note every Epson printer listed.
- Select the printer connected with the error.
- Record its exact model name.
- Select Remove and confirm.
If the error appears before you can identify the printer, check the printer’s label, its network administration page, or an old invoice or setup document. Do not guess the model based only on the DLL filename.
2. Uninstall Epson software
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Epson.
- Remove the printer software, status monitor, scanner utility, or setup program associated with the affected device.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove unrelated Epson software if you have several Epson devices. If you are uncertain, remove only the package that matches the printer model you recorded.
3. Install the complete official package
Open Epson’s official support or Download Center in your browser. Search for the exact printer model, select your Windows release and system architecture when offered, and download the complete printer-driver package.
Install it normally, then reconnect the USB cable or add the network printer when the installer requests it. Avoid selecting a loose DLL, an unofficial repack, or a package intended for a similar-looking model.
4. Confirm the repair
Print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- On the General tab, select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the installer completes, the printer appears without a warning, the Epson utility opens, and the test page prints without the DLL message.
If the error returns, continue with the driver-store and Device Manager checks below rather than downloading ep0lvrag.dll separately.

Fix 2: Clean up the old driver package
Removing a printer does not always remove its staged driver. An old package can remain in Windows while a new printer entry points to an incomplete installation.
Use Print Server Properties
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui.exe /s /t2 - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Locate the Epson driver matching the removed printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the correct Epson package again.
Do not remove every Epson entry if other printers still depend on them. If Windows says the driver is in use, remove all matching Epson printer queues first and restart before trying again.
Inspect installed driver packages
Open Command Prompt as administrator:
- Press Start.
- Type
cmd. - Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
pnputil /enum-drivers
Look for an Epson provider and an INF name related to the printer package, such as prnep00l.inf or prnep001.inf. Match the provider, printer model, and package details before removing anything.
To search the Driver Store for the file, run:
where /r "%windir%System32DriverStoreFileRepository" EP0LVRAG.DLL
If Windows finds the file, note its location but do not copy it elsewhere. If it does not find the file, that confirms only that the file is not present in that search location. It does not identify which package originally installed it.

When removing a package with pnputil, use the exact published name shown by your computer and verify it belongs to the affected Epson printer. Removing the wrong package can disable another device.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine or delete a damaged driver component.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an item named
EP0LVRAG.DLLor an Epson printer-driver package. - Check the detected file path and publisher details.
Restore the file only if it is inside a verified Epson or Windows printer-driver package and your security vendor confirms the detection was a false positive. Do not disable antivirus protection just to copy a DLL into a protected Windows directory.

If the file was quarantined, reinstall the complete signed driver package instead of restoring a loose copy. This replaces related files and dependencies together.
Fix 4: Check Device Manager for a driver mismatch
Device Manager may show the printer, a USB printing device, or an unrecognized device with a warning icon.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Epson device or a device with a yellow warning symbol.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Check the General tab for an error code.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and driver date.
- Select Uninstall Device if the device is clearly the affected Epson printer.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the Epson model-specific driver again.
Do not use Update driver to select an arbitrary DLL. A printer driver is an installed package containing the INF, catalog, supporting files, and correct registration. Updating one file does not recreate that package.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows features are also malfunctioning, system files are damaged, or the problem began after a failed upgrade. They are secondary checks for this issue. SFC may not restore an Epson-only DLL because third-party printer files are not necessarily stored in the Windows component store.
Run DISM
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Restart Windows.
A successful result reports that the restore operation completed. If DISM reports that it cannot find source files, install pending Windows updates, restart, and run the command again. If it still fails, record the exact error rather than repeatedly running it.
Run System File Checker
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
SFC checks protected Windows files and repairs files it can replace. Restart when it finishes, then reinstall the Epson driver even if SFC reports that it repaired files.

If the printer was removed but the error appears every time Windows starts, an old Epson utility may still be launching.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an Epson status monitor, printer utility, or setup helper.
- Right-click the obsolete entry.
- Select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings → Apps → Installed apps and uninstall obsolete Epson utilities. Do not delete random startup entries from the registry unless you know exactly what created them.
If disabling the startup item stops the message but printing is still required, install the correct Epson package instead of leaving the printer software disabled.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 ep0lvrag.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose the DllRegisterServer entry point, normally COM or ActiveX-style components. It does not install a printer driver, rebuild an INF package, repair the Driver Store, or restore a missing dependency.
A failure such as “the module was loaded but the entry point was not found” means the command was inappropriate, not that Windows needs another copy of the file.

Random DLL download pages can provide malware, a damaged file, the wrong architecture, or a historical build that does not match your driver. Even a clean file may not fix the underlying missing dependency, INF registration, catalog signature, or printer queue.
Do not copy ep0lvrag.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- a game directory
- an arbitrary application folder
- the Epson installation directory unless the official installer places it there
Manual copying can create version conflicts and unsafe DLL search-order behavior. Use the complete driver package from Epson or the compatible driver offered through Windows.
32-bit and 64-bit Windows
A 32-bit printer component can be legitimate on 64-bit Windows, particularly with older printer software. Public records for this filename are inconsistent: one source labels a known build as 32-bit, while another reports it under an x64 Driver Store path.
Do not choose a replacement based on file size, version number, or an “x86” or “x64” label from a download page. Check Settings → System → About → System type, then let the Epson installer select the package intended for your printer and Windows architecture.

They can repair damaged Windows components, but they may not restore a third-party Epson driver file. Run them when broader Windows corruption is present, then reinstall the Epson package.
What if reinstalling the driver fails?
Check Event Viewer for the application named in the error, confirm the Epson provider and INF with pnputil /enum-drivers, remove conflicting printer queues, and try the installation from a clean Windows user profile. System Restore is a fallback if the failure began immediately after a driver update or software removal.
