“The program can’t start because ep0lxfpw.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” ep0lxfpw.dll is usually an Epson printer-driver component, not a Windows runtime or game file.
The safest repair is to remove the affected Epson printer and reinstall its complete driver package. Do not download an isolated copy of the DLL, place it in System32, or register it manually.
Which fix applies to you
Use the first matching situation:
- The error appears while adding or printing to an Epson printer: remove the printer and reinstall the exact Epson model driver.
- The printer was recently removed, updated, or moved between computers: delete the old driver package, then reinstall it.
- The popup appears at login with no active print job: inspect Epson startup software and scheduled tasks for an obsolete utility.
- Windows Security quarantined the file: check Protection History before restoring anything.
- The file exists but still will not load: the file may be damaged, the wrong architecture, or missing a dependency.
- Other Windows components are also failing: run DISM and System File Checker after repairing the Epson package.
- The message names
MSVCP*.dllorVCRUNTIME*.dllinstead: investigate Visual C++ separately.ep0lxfpw.dllitself is not a Visual C++ runtime file.
Before changing anything, record the exact Windows version, Epson model, complete error text, process or program shown in the popup, whether the printer was recently removed or updated, and whether Windows Security reported a quarantine event.
What ep0lxfpw.dll is
ep0lxfpw.dll is a 32-bit Epson printer-driver component associated with Epson Universal Printing System XPS. Public file metadata identifies the publisher as SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION and lists version 0.4.1.0.

The strongest package evidence places EP0LXFPW.DLL in an Epson printer-driver package associated with prnepcl2.inf, alongside printer description and configuration files. The exact Epson models that use it cannot be determined from the filename alone.
A 64-bit Windows installation can still use a 32-bit printer component. Windows bitness does not mean that every driver file must be 64-bit. The complete Epson package determines which architecture is correct.
The file normally belongs in a protected Windows driver-package location, often under an architecture-specific directory within:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository
Do not edit or replace files inside DriverStoreFileRepository. Windows manages those files through staged driver packages.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer
This is the most likely solution when the error occurs during printing, printer setup, or spooler startup.
- Turn off or disconnect the Epson printer.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Epson printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the complete driver package for the exact Epson model from Epson’s official support or Download Center.
- Alternatively, return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, select Add device, and allow Windows Update to provide a compatible printer driver.
- Turn on or reconnect the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Print a test page.
The repair worked if the Epson printer installs without the DLL message and a test page prints normally.
If the installer reports the same error again, the old driver may still be registered. Continue with the clean removal procedure below rather than copying a replacement DLL.

Fix 2: Remove the stale Epson driver package
Removing only the printer queue may leave the damaged package in Windows. Use this method when reinstalling appears to succeed but ep0lxfpw.dll fails again.
Remove it through Device Manager
- Disconnect or turn off the Epson printer.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Select View → Show hidden devices.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, where present, Software devices.
- Right-click the Epson device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Delete the driver software for this device, select it.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the complete Epson package again.
If the Epson device is not listed, open Control Panel, search for Devices and Printers, select an empty area of the window, and choose Print server properties. Open the Drivers tab, select the Epson driver, choose Remove, and select the option to remove the driver and driver package when offered.
Identify the package with PnPUtil
Advanced users can list installed third-party driver packages. Open Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator and run:

Look for the confirmed Epson package and note its published name, such as oem##.inf. Do not guess that number.
To remove a confirmed package, run:
pnputil /delete-driver oem##.inf /uninstall /reboot
Replace oem##.inf with the actual published name. Do not remove a package that another printer still uses.

Microsoft documents the PnPUtil command syntax and the safe use of /delete-driver and /uninstall.
After the restart, install the exact Epson package again. Success means the package appears cleanly under the printer and its driver properties, with no recurring DLL error.

Antivirus software can remove a driver component or block it during installation.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event mentioning
ep0lxfpw.dll, an Epson driver, or the printer installer. - Check the detection name and the file path.
- If the file came from an official, digitally signed Epson or Microsoft driver package and the detection is demonstrably false, use the available restore or allow action.
- Otherwise, leave it quarantined and reinstall the driver from Epson or Windows Update.
Do not restore a DLL simply because its filename matches the error. A replacement from an unknown source may be malicious, mismatched, or incomplete.

Fix 4: Repair Windows components
DISM and System File Checker are useful when Windows servicing is damaged or multiple unrelated system components are failing. They do not recreate an arbitrary missing Epson package from an internet download.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Epson printer driver if the DLL error remains.
Success means the commands complete without reporting unrepaired corruption and the printer installs or prints normally afterward. If SFC reports files it could not repair, review the result, install pending Windows updates, restart, and run SFC again. If only the Epson error remains, return to the driver-package removal steps.

Fix 5: Install pending updates
A printer package may have been delivered through Windows Update even though it is authored by Epson. That makes it a vendor driver distributed by Microsoft, not a core Windows DLL.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates, including optional driver updates if they identify the Epson printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Try the printer again.
If Windows Update does not offer the correct driver, use the exact printer model’s official Epson package instead.
Fix 6: Find a stale Epson startup reference
If the popup appears at login rather than during printing, an old Epson utility may still be trying to load the component.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable an obsolete Epson utility if you recognize it and no longer use it.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Remove old Epson utilities only when you know they are no longer required.
- Check Task Scheduler for Epson tasks that point to a removed installation.
- Restart Windows.
Do not disable the active printer service or remove software that controls a printer still in use. If the popup disappears but printing fails, reinstall the current Epson package.

Running either command is not an appropriate repair for this Epson component:
regsvr32 ep0lxfpw.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSysWOW64ep0lxfpw.dll
A registration error does not prove that the file is missing. Reinstall the printer package instead.
Why manual DLL downloads are unsafe
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of the Epson package. Even a genuine-looking file may not fix the error if a dependency is missing or the DriverStore registration is damaged.
Do not:
- Copy the file into
C:WindowsSystem32. - Copy it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64. - Place it beside an unrelated program.
- Replace files inside
DriverStoreFileRepository. - Register it with
regsvr32. - Install DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++ solely because the missing item ends in
.dll.
Use Windows Update or the official Epson support package for the exact printer model.

If the error remains
A file can exist on disk and still fail to load because a dependency is missing, incompatible, quarantined, or blocked. Check the process named in the popup and review Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application for the matching failure.
If the clean reinstall does not work, collect:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- Epson printer model
- Complete error text
- Process or program name
- Whether the error appears at login, setup, printing, or spooler startup
- Output from the
pnputilsearch - Any Windows Security detection name
If the problem began immediately after a driver update or removal, run rstrui.exe and choose a restore point from before that change. System Restore can roll back drivers and system settings without normally removing personal files.
FAQ
Is ep0lxfpw.dll part of Windows?
It may be delivered through Microsoft’s driver-distribution system, but it is an Epson-authored printer-driver component, not a general Windows API DLL.
Is the file safe?
The genuine component is associated with SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION and Epson printer software. A filename alone does not prove that a particular copy is genuine. Verify that it came from an official, digitally signed Epson or Microsoft driver package.

The filename alone does not identify one exact model. It is associated with an Epson printer-driver package, so use the printer model and installed package information to identify the correct driver.
Why does a 32-bit DLL appear on 64-bit Windows?
Some printer packages include 32-bit components for compatibility. Install the complete Epson package rather than choosing a DLL based only on Windows bitness.
Should I install Visual C++?
Not for ep0lxfpw.dll alone. Consider Visual C++ only if the error separately names files such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll.
What if the message says “specified module could not be found” even though the file exists?
That wording can indicate a missing dependency or incompatible module. Reinstall the complete driver package and check Windows Security rather than replacing only the named file.

Can I use System Restore?
Yes, when the problem began immediately after a driver change and a suitable restore point exists. It is a fallback, not the first repair.
