Start with this quick diagnostic
Before changing anything, record:
- The exact program or process reporting
ep0no000.dll - Whether the message appears during printing, printer setup, Windows startup, or when another application opens
- The full path shown in the error or in Task Manager
- Your Windows edition and architecture under Settings > System > About
- Whether the system is x64, x86, or ARM-based
- Whether an Epson printer or Epson utility is still installed
- Whether the problem began after a driver update, printer removal, Windows upgrade, cleanup utility, or antivirus alert
ep0no000.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a normal Windows runtime file. The safest repair is to remove the affected Epson printer package and install the correct driver for the printer model from Epson or through Windows Update.
What ep0no000.dll is
Public file records identify EP0NO000.DLL as part of an older EPSON Printer Driver package associated with SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION. It is a hardware-driver component, not a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET component, game library, or core Windows API file.

Older Epson packages can place related files in Windows Driver Store folders. The Driver Store contains both inbox Windows drivers and third-party packages, so finding an Epson-related file there does not make it a core Windows component. Microsoft describes the Driver Store and its package rules in its Driver Store documentation.
There is no single universal version, file size, hash, or architecture that applies to every copy. Public catalogs show different historical copies, and the correct package depends on the printer model and the Windows architecture.

The exact Epson models that used this component cannot be reliably established from the filename alone. Match the driver to the printer model rather than searching for a file with the same name.
What the error means
Windows may display messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because EP0NO000.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading EP0NO000.DLL.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because EP0NO000.DLL was not found.”
- “EP0NO000.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “EP0NO000.DLL is corrupted.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. A dependency required by the Epson driver may also be missing or incompatible.
The program named in the message is important. If it is a printer utility or print-related process, repair the Epson package first. If the message appears at every startup after the printer was removed, a stale Epson utility or startup entry is more likely. If the file is in AppData, Temp, or Downloads and is being launched through regsvr32, treat it as a possible security incident.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer
This is the most likely fix when the error appears during printing, printer setup, or after a driver update.
Remove the printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Epson printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
Next, remove the device package if Windows still lists it:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Select View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Printers and Print queues.
- Right-click the Epson device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device or Delete the driver software for this device.
- Restart Windows.

Install the correct package
Identify the exact model from the printer label or the old Windows entry. Then download the current package from Epson’s official printer support site, or allow Windows Update to provide the driver.

After installation:
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Add the Epson printer.
- Open the printer’s properties.
- Print a test page.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the original program no longer reports the DLL. If the same error remains, note which process triggers it and continue with the stale-software checks below.

Fix 2: Remove stale Epson software and startup entries
If the error appears during every boot even though the printer is gone, the printer driver may no longer be the active problem. An Epson utility or startup entry may still be trying to load the old component.
Uninstall Epson applications
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for
Epson. - Remove printer utilities, status monitors, scanner utilities, and old Epson setup programs associated with the removed printer.
- Restart Windows.
On older Windows interfaces:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall the relevant Epson software.
- Restart.

Check startup applications
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an Epson entry associated with the removed printer.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart and check whether the message returns.
Do not delete random registry values. First identify the executable path and the Epson program that created the entry. If the path points to an Epson installation directory and the software is no longer needed, uninstalling the software is safer than manually editing the registry.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
If the error began immediately after a security alert, Windows Security may have quarantined the file.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the relevant detection.
- Review its file path, publisher, and detection details.
Do not restore the file simply because its name looks like an Epson DLL. Restore it only when it came from a legitimate, signed Epson or Microsoft driver package and the alert is clearly a false positive. In most cases, reinstalling the official printer package is safer than restoring an isolated DLL.

Fix 4: Investigate a suspicious file path
A legitimate staged printer driver should be associated with a printer installation and a signed driver package. A copy in an arbitrary user directory deserves closer inspection.
Be especially cautious when:
- The file is in
AppData,Temp, or Downloads regsvr32.exelaunches it- The file has no trustworthy digital signature
- No Epson printer or Epson software is installed
- The error appears with other unexplained startup entries
- Antivirus has reported related files
Run a full scan:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Choose Full scan.
- Select Scan now.
If the file is being launched from a suspicious path or the full scan finds related threats, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same menu. Microsoft’s Defender Offline documentation explains how the scan works outside the normal Windows environment.
Do not copy a clean-looking DLL over the suspicious file. Remove the unwanted program or persistence mechanism after scanning, then reinstall the legitimate Epson driver if the printer is still required.

SFC and DISM are secondary remedies here. They repair Windows-protected components and may not restore a third-party Epson driver DLL. Use them when Windows has broader corruption symptoms, such as damaged system utilities, repeated servicing failures, or several unrelated files reporting corruption.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer and the program again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
Repeatedly running these commands will not recreate a missing Epson INF, catalog, or model-specific driver package. If the commands report no integrity violations, return to the Epson driver reinstall procedure.

Fix 6: Clean a stubborn Driver Store package
Use this only when the old Epson package remains registered and a normal uninstall does not resolve the error. Do not manually delete files from C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository.

First inventory installed driver packages:
- Open Terminal (Admin).
- Run:
pnputil /enum-drivers /files
- Review the output for an Epson provider and the associated published name, such as
oem##.inf. - Confirm that the package belongs to the obsolete Epson printer and is not shared with another working device.
Only after identifying the correct package, run:
pnputil /delete-driver oem##.inf /uninstall
Replace oem##.inf with the actual published name. Never use an arbitrary value. Removing the wrong package can disable hardware. Microsoft documents the command and its options in the PnPUtil command reference.
Restart Windows and install the correct Epson package afterward.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 ep0no000.dll is not an appropriate general repair command. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; a printer-driver component is not automatically a COM server. Microsoft documents the command in its regsvr32 reference.

The file may be for the wrong printer, architecture, or package revision, may be tampered with, and will not recreate the INF, catalog, dependencies, or device registration that the driver requires. Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error started immediately after a Windows update, driver installation, or cleanup operation, and no clean reinstall is available:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Start the restore.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can remove a recent driver or software change. Microsoft provides additional System Restore guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Is ep0no000.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is identified as an Epson printer-driver component. An older Windows installation may retain it in the Driver Store, but that does not make it a core Windows DLL.

What if no Epson printer is installed?
Remove obsolete Epson applications and startup entries after checking the executable path. If the file is referenced from a suspicious location, scan for malware rather than installing an Epson DLL.
