“The program can’t start because ep0nxfs1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” If ep0nxfs1.dll is missing, not found, corrupt, or cannot be loaded, the problem is usually an incomplete Epson printer-driver installation.
Which fix applies to you
- The error appears when printing, adding an Epson printer, or opening Epson software: reinstall the exact Epson printer package.
- The error started after removing a printer, running cleanup software, or restoring Windows: remove the old Epson queue and driver, then reinstall it cleanly.
- Windows Security quarantined the file: inspect Protection history, but prefer reinstalling the complete Epson package over restoring a loose DLL.
- The file is found outside an Epson driver directory: inspect its path and scan the computer before trusting it.
- Several Windows programs report missing or corrupt system files: run DISM and SFC after repairing the Epson driver.
- You no longer use the Epson printer: remove the printer, queue, and obsolete driver instead of restoring the DLL.
What ep0nxfs1.dll is
ep0nxfs1.dll is a 32-bit Epson printer-software component. Public metadata identifies its internal name as EP0NXFS1, associates it with SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION and Epson Universal Printing System XPS, and reports version 0.4.1.0.
It is not a core Windows DLL and is not normally a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. Epson printer packages may place it below a Windows Driver Store location such as:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryprnepcl2.inf_*
The exact printer model and package cannot be identified from the filename alone. Multiple Epson products can use related driver packages, and the same reported version has appeared with different file sizes. Do not choose a replacement by size alone.

A 32-bit DLL can be used by a printer component on 64-bit Windows. It does not mean that Windows itself must be 32-bit. The correct architecture is supplied by the Epson installer and the printer’s driver package.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer package
This is the most likely and safest fix.
1. Identify the printer model
Look at the printer’s front panel, label, purchase paperwork, or the existing printer entry in Windows. Record the complete model name, including letters and numbers.
Then check:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Note its name and, if shown, the driver or manufacturer details.
If the error occurs in an unrelated game or application, do not assume that application needs Epson software. First inspect the erroring program and the full path of the DLL reference.
2. Download the package from Epson
Use Epson’s official product support site or official Download Center. Search for the exact printer model, select your Windows version, and choose the driver package offered for the system architecture.
Do not download ep0nxfs1.dll by itself. Epson’s installer places the DLL and its dependencies in the locations specified by the driver’s installation files.
If the installer asks you to disconnect the USB cable, do so. If the printer is networked, leave it connected only when the installer instructs you to.
3. Install and test
- Close Epson utilities and any program displaying the error.
- Right-click the downloaded Epson installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- Restart Windows when installation finishes.
- Return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer and choose Print a test page.
The fix worked if the Epson software starts without the DLL message and the test page prints. If the installer fails, record its exact message rather than copying a DLL from another computer.

Fix 2: Remove the damaged Epson driver and reinstall it
Use this procedure when reinstalling over the existing package does not help, or when the problem began after an interrupted uninstall.
Remove the printer
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
Remove the device entry
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Select View → Show hidden devices.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers if relevant.
- Right-click the Epson device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm removal only for the Epson device you identified.
- Restart Windows.
Remove the driver package
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
printui.exe /s /t2
- Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Highlight the Epson driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current Epson package again.
Do not remove a driver package that other printers still use. Microsoft’s driver tools warn that deleting a package can affect devices using it.
For advanced cleanup, open Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) and list installed packages:

pnputil /enum-drivers
Look for the Epson package and note its published name, such as oemNN.inf. Only after verifying that it belongs to Epson should you remove it:
pnputil /delete-driver oemNN.inf /uninstall
Replace oemNN.inf with the actual verified name. Never guess the value.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
A missing file can result from antivirus quarantine, especially if the error appeared suddenly.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
ep0nxfs1.dllor the Epson driver directory. - Expand the event and inspect the full path and detection details.
If the file was inside an Epson Driver Store directory and the security product identifies it as safe, you can review the restore option. Reinstalling the complete Epson driver is safer than restoring a loose DLL.
If the file was located in a temporary folder, a user-download folder, or an unrelated application directory, do not restore it automatically. Run a full scan and investigate the program that requested it.

Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
SFC and DISM are not the primary replacement mechanism for a third-party Epson driver. Use them when Windows reports broader corruption, Driver Store operations fail, or the official Epson reinstall still leaves system repair errors.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall or repair the Epson package again if the DLL error remains.
Microsoft recommends repairing the Windows component store with DISM before running SFC. SFC may repair Windows files, but it may not restore a third-party Epson DLL.

Do not copy the DLL into System32
Do not download ep0nxfs1.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
That can introduce the wrong version or architecture, omit dependent files, break driver servicing, and leave an unsigned or modified binary on the computer. It also often fails because “the specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency of the DLL rather than the named file itself.

The only reasonable manual recovery is restoring the exact file from a trusted backup or the exact Epson installation package. Even then, repair the complete driver package afterward.
Should you run regsvr32?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair command for every missing DLL. There is no verified evidence that EP0NXFS1.DLL is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.

unless Epson’s documentation for the exact printer package explicitly requires it. A “module failed to load” or “entry point was not found” result does not repair the printer driver.
If you no longer use the Epson printer
Removing the obsolete package may be the correct solution.
- Remove the printer in Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove its queue and device in Device Manager.
- Open
printui.exe /s /t2. - Remove the Epson driver from the Drivers tab.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps for Epson utilities you no longer need.
- Uninstall only the Epson entries associated with the retired printer.
If the error returns, check whether Windows Update, an old printer queue, antivirus quarantine, or Epson setup software is reinstalling the package.
Frequently asked questions
Is ep0nxfs1.dll malware?
The filename is associated with Epson printer software, but a filename alone is not a security guarantee. A genuine copy should come from an Epson driver package and normally appear in a printer-driver directory. A copy in an unrelated application folder deserves investigation and a malware scan.

Which Epson printer installed it?
The filename alone cannot identify the exact model. Check installed printers, the driver name, the full DLL path, and the Epson package that was installed. The prnepcl2.inf context points to an Epson printer-driver package, not one universal printer model.
Do I need Visual C++ Redistributables?
There is no verified evidence that installing Visual C++ 2015 is the normal fix for this DLL. Repair the Epson printer package first. If the error names a missing dependency after that, investigate the dependency separately.
Does the 32-bit DLL require 32-bit Windows?
No. A 32-bit printer component can operate on 64-bit Windows through the appropriate driver architecture. Install the package intended for the printer and Windows version rather than replacing the file with a 64-bit DLL.
What does “specified module could not be found” mean?
It may mean that ep0nxfs1.dll itself is missing, or that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. Reinstalling the complete Epson package addresses both possibilities more reliably than copying one file.
What if Epson no longer offers a driver for my printer?
Check Epson’s legacy support pages and Windows’ built-in printer-driver options. If the printer is no longer used, remove its queue and driver instead of repeatedly restoring the DLL.
