It was not an announcement of a film—or a detailed account of Epic’s past discussions.
What did Tim Sweeney say about a Fortnite movie?
On April 5, 2025, entertainment-industry tipster Daniel Richtman, known as DanielRPK, posted that there had already been discussion of a Fortnite movie, that some studios had passed, and that this could change after the success of A Minecraft Movie. The original social-media post was later deleted; its wording was reproduced in Insider Gaming’s contemporaneous report.
Insider Gaming reported that Sweeney responded with one word: “False.” That is the only direct statement from Sweeney about the rumor documented in the contemporaneous reporting. The reply did not identify which part of DanielRPK’s combined claim he meant to reject.
Did Sony pass on a Fortnite movie?
The available reporting does not establish that Sony passed on a Fortnite film. After Sweeney’s reply, DanielRPK asked whether Sony had turned down an opportunity to make one years earlier. Reports by detikInet and MeriStation said the follow-up had not received an answer at the time they reported on it. The Sony claim should therefore be treated as unresolved, not as a confirmed studio decision.

Is a Fortnite movie confirmed?
No Fortnite film, release date, studio, or production is established by these reports. Sweeney’s one-word denial addressed a rumor but did not provide enough detail to determine exactly which assertions he was rejecting. It also did not amount to a definitive statement about every possible future adaptation.

Epic’s official About Epic Games FAQ identifies Sweeney as CEO and says, in response to a question about making a movie or other work based on an Epic game, that the company is “not looking for additional licensing partners at this time.” That is Epic’s published general position, not an account of every private conversation that may have taken place in the past.
