Epic Games Launcher error AS-3 is generally treated as a network-configuration or launcher-web-cache problem. Epic’s official support index does not publish a separate AS-3 diagnosis; it places unlisted AS codes in the same broad troubleshooting category. Check Epic’s service status first, then update Windows and drivers, clear the launcher’s web cache, restart, and test the launcher with local interference reduced. Reinstalling should be a last resort, not the first response.
What error AS-3 means
AS-3 is an Epic Games Launcher sign-in or connection failure, but the code alone does not identify one precise fault. Epic documents several specific AS codes, including AS-18004, AS-18031, AS-1010 and AS-202. For other AS errors, including AS-3, Epic describes the supported cause class as a network configuration issue or web cache that needs to be cleared.

That distinction matters. Seeing AS-3 does not prove that your router, Windows installation or Epic account is permanently broken. It also does not prove that Epic is online. The same message can appear when the service is unavailable, when the launcher has stale web data, or when software on the computer prevents its connection. Use the sequence below to separate those possibilities with the least disruptive actions first.

Start with the checks that cannot damage your installation
1. Check Epic service status
Open Epic’s official server-status page before changing files or reinstalling anything. Look for an incident affecting login, the Epic Games Store, account services or the launcher. If Epic reports a system-wide failure, local repairs are unlikely to help; wait for service restoration and try again later.

This is the fastest and lowest-risk test because it changes nothing on your PC. If other people are reporting the same sign-in failure at the same time, record the incident time and avoid repeated reinstalls while the outage is active.
2. Confirm the failure is repeatable
Close the error, exit the launcher completely and open it again once. A temporary connection interruption can clear after a fresh session. If AS-3 returns immediately, continue with the local steps instead of repeatedly entering your password. Repeated login attempts do not repair a cache or network configuration problem.
Update the software environment
Keep Windows current
Install pending Windows updates, then restart the computer. Epic’s general launcher guidance includes current Windows as a prerequisite for troubleshooting. Updates can replace networking components or security fixes that the launcher relies on, so test again after the restart rather than assuming the update had no effect.

Update device drivers
Bring the computer’s device drivers up to date, with particular attention to graphics drivers because Epic lists graphics-driver updates among its general launcher remedies. Use Windows Update or the support utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer, and reboot when the installer requests it. Keep track of what changed: if AS-3 appears only after a driver or security update, that timing is useful when you escalate the case.
Check for a launcher update and system requirements
Allow Epic Games Launcher to update if it offers an update. Also verify that the computer still meets the launcher’s published system requirements. A launcher that is outdated or running on an unsupported Windows configuration can fail before it completes sign-in, making the message look like an account problem.
Clear the Epic Games Launcher web cache on Windows
Cache deletion is the most targeted fix for a damaged or stale launcher web session. It removes launcher web data, not your installed game folders. Follow the sequence exactly:

- Exit Epic Games Launcher. Open the notification area on the Windows taskbar, right-click the Epic icon and choose the command that exits the launcher. Do not leave it running in the background.
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter

Epic Games Launcher, then openSaved. - Delete the folder named
webcache. If Windows shows more than one web-cache folder, remove the one whose name begins withwebcacheas part of Epic’s cache cleanup; do not delete the entireSaveddirectory. - Restart Windows.
- Launch Epic Games Launcher and attempt to sign in again.
The first launch after cleanup may rebuild local web data. That is expected. If the folder is not present, the cache may already have been removed or the launcher may be using a different local profile; continue with the connection and interference tests rather than deleting unrelated folders.

Run the launcher as administrator for one test
Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut or executable and choose Run as administrator. This is a reversible diagnostic, not a requirement to run every game with elevated privileges. If AS-3 disappears only under this test, a permissions or security-policy conflict may be involved. If the error is unchanged, close the elevated session and continue; repeatedly granting elevation will not fix a server outage.
Temporarily close background applications
Epic’s general troubleshooting guidance recommends disabling background applications where relevant. Close overlays, recording tools, traffic filters, aggressive security utilities and other software that injects into or monitors applications, then retry the launcher. Re-enable programs one at a time after testing so you can identify a conflict without leaving protection disabled unnecessarily.

Do not permanently turn off security software as a “fix.” Use a short, controlled test, follow the security product’s own instructions, and restore normal protection immediately afterward.
Update graphics drivers before judging a failed test
If the launcher opens but behaves unpredictably during sign-in, complete the graphics-driver update before deciding that the cache cleanup failed. Epic includes driver updates in its broader launcher troubleshooting because an outdated driver can interfere with the client even when the visible error looks like a connection failure.
Use the symptom to choose the next branch
| Observed result | Most useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Epic reports an active incident | The failure may be service-wide rather than local | Wait for service restoration, then retry without reinstalling. |
| AS-3 disappears after cache cleanup | Stale or damaged launcher web data was a plausible trigger | Continue using the launcher and note the cleanup if the problem returns. |
| AS-3 remains after cleanup and restart | A network configuration or local-interference issue remains possible | Complete Windows, driver, connection and background-application checks. |
| Only one computer fails while another connection works | The affected PC’s software or configuration deserves attention | Repeat the low-impact local checks and document security or driver changes. |
| Several devices fail at once | The shared network or an Epic service issue is more likely than one launcher cache | Check service status and investigate the network connection before reinstalling. |
| The launcher fails after a system change | The timing points to a configuration or compatibility conflict | Record the change and include it when contacting support or the hardware manufacturer. |
Connection troubleshooting after cache cleanup
Epic’s AS-error guidance directs unresolved cases to its connection-troubleshooting material. The purpose of this stage is to determine whether the launcher can establish a normal connection, not to purchase new equipment. Work through the checks that match your setup:

- Confirm that the computer has a working internet connection in another application. A browser test does not prove every Epic service is reachable, but it distinguishes a completely offline PC from a launcher-specific failure.
- Restart the computer after changing Windows, driver or network settings. This ensures services reload with the new configuration.
- If the problem affects every device on the same connection, inspect the shared network configuration and wait for any Epic service incident to clear before making destructive changes.
- If only Epic Games Launcher is affected, focus on the launcher cache, updates and background software rather than replacing network hardware.
- Keep a short record of the time of failure, whether service status showed an incident, which cache folder was removed, and whether administrator or background-app tests changed the result. Those observations make support escalation more efficient.
The available evidence supports a network-or-cache diagnosis class, not a guaranteed fix for one exact router, firewall or account setting. Avoid presenting a successful browser connection as proof that every Epic endpoint is reachable, and avoid treating a failed browser connection as proof that AS-3 is solely an Epic problem.

Epic lists reinstalling the launcher among broader troubleshooting options, but it belongs after status, update, cache and connection checks. Reinstallation takes longer and can introduce new setup work, while it does not repair an active outage or an incorrect network configuration.
Before choosing it, make sure you have recorded your launcher settings and know where your games are installed. Follow Epic’s current uninstall and installation instructions for your Windows edition rather than deleting arbitrary folders. If the error survives a clean reinstall, that result is evidence against a simple corrupted launcher install and should be included in your support case.
Risk, time and scope of each fix
| Action | Risk to installed games | Typical effort | What it tests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check Epic server status | None | Fastest | Whether the problem may be system-wide. |
| Restart and retry | None | Very low | Whether the failure was a transient session or connection interruption. |
| Windows, launcher and driver updates | Low | Moderate | Whether outdated components are blocking normal launcher operation. |
Delete the webcache folder |
Low when the documented folder is targeted | Low | Whether stale launcher web state is preventing sign-in. |
| Administrator and background-app tests | Low and reversible | Low to moderate | Whether permissions or local software are interfering. |
| Connection troubleshooting | Usually low | Moderate | Whether network configuration is preventing Epic connectivity. |
| Launcher reinstall | Highest effort; verify game locations first | Longest | Whether the launcher installation itself is persistently damaged. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not start with a reinstall. It is the broadest and most time-consuming step, and it cannot resolve an Epic outage.
- Do not delete the whole local-app-data tree. The documented cleanup targets the
webcachefolder insideEpic Games LauncherSaved. - Do not confuse AS-3 with a published AS-18004, AS-18031, AS-1010 or AS-202 article. Epic’s index treats AS-3 as an unspecified AS error, so those code-specific remedies should not be assumed to apply.
- Do not buy network hardware merely because the code appears. Epic’s documented remedies are software, cache, operating-system, driver and configuration checks; no Ethernet cable, USB adapter or router replacement is required by the guidance.
- Do not leave security protections disabled. Background-app isolation is a temporary diagnostic, not a permanent configuration.
When to contact Epic support
Escalate after the service-status check, updates, cache cleanup, restart, connection checks and reversible interference tests fail. Include the exact code AS-3, your Windows edition, launcher version if shown, the approximate start time, whether Epic reported an outage, and which steps changed the result. If the issue points to a computer-specific hardware or driver problem, Epic’s general guidance also allows for contacting the hardware manufacturer.
A precise timeline is more useful than repeating the same failed login. State whether other devices can reach Epic, whether the error occurs before or after the sign-in form, and whether a clean launcher reinstall changed anything. Those details help support distinguish service availability, local cache state, network configuration and installation corruption.
Bottom line
Epic Games Launcher error AS-3 is an unspecified AS error with no dedicated official root-cause article. Treat it as a possible service, network-configuration or launcher-cache problem: check status, update Windows and drivers, clear %localappdata%Epic Games LauncherSavedwebcache, restart, test with local interference reduced, and reserve reinstalling or support escalation for cases that survive those lower-impact checks.
