Afterward, MeguminShiro posted, “End Task – Megumin’s Weird Clues (Meguwillclose.exe).” Coverage described the user as stopping the hints, but did not establish a permanent departure or explain why the prediction was wrong.
What was predicted, and what did Epic give away?
Before the December 25, 2024 reveal, MeguminShiro identified Civilization VI Platinum Edition as the likely free game. The actual game discussed in the Christmas Day giveaway thread was Control. Notebookcheck’s December 26 report recounted the mistaken prediction and the actual reveal; the r/FreeGameFindings thread corroborates the giveaway title.

Why did the leak point to Civilization VI?
A December 24 preview described MeguminShiro’s clue as cryptic. The preview relayed interpretations suggesting a AAA game, a “Very Positive” Steam rating, a title more than two years old, and a possible “half repeat” of a previous Epic giveaway. Civilization VI Platinum Edition was one possible interpretation, not a confirmed identification. Notebookcheck’s December 24 preview explicitly noted the lack of a concrete identification.
What did MeguminShiro say after the mistake?
Notebookcheck reported that MeguminShiro learned shortly before the official reveal that the game would be Control, then posted: “End Task – Megumin’s Weird Clues (Meguwillclose.exe).” The report said the user did not explain what had gone wrong. The phrase is evidence of a public sign-off from the clue-posting activity, but it does not by itself prove the account would never post again.

Did the Epic Games Store leaker quit for good?
Not conclusively. A December 27 follow-up said MeguminShiro had stopped sharing hints after the failed prediction, which supports describing the user as having paused or withdrawn from posting clues. It does not establish that the departure was permanent. The follow-up also discussed clues from a separate leaker, Billbil-kun; those posts do not resolve MeguminShiro’s status. Notebookcheck’s December 27 follow-up reports the halt in hints.

The reviewed coverage does not establish the cause. Notebookcheck relayed speculation that MeguminShiro might have been an Epic Games Store employee or intern, or that Epic may have provided incorrect information to identify a source. MeguminShiro did not confirm those theories. They should not be treated as facts: there is no confirmed employment link, planted false information, or explanation from the user.
