Epic Games Store’s reported opening PC freebies for December 2025 were The Darkside Detective and The Jackbox Party Pack 4. Notebookcheck reported the pair on Nov. 27, 2025, as planned for the first week of December; the available sources do not establish the exact claim dates, times, or regional eligibility, so the games should not be described as currently claimable.
What were the Epic Games Store free games for the first week of December 2025?
The reported pair was The Darkside Detective and The Jackbox Party Pack 4, both PC games. How the two games differ
| Game | What it is | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| The Darkside Detective | A comedic point-and-click adventure about a detective investigating supernatural cases. | Solo play and players who enjoy mystery, dialogue, and puzzle-solving. |
| The Jackbox Party Pack 4 | A collection of five multiplayer party games. | Groups looking for short, social games; the report describes local split-screen play and remote participation. |
Why the games were described as acclaimed
The Darkside Detective
The Irish Game Makers Association (IMIRT) lists The Darkside Detective as the winner of both its 2017 Game of the Year and Best Game Narrative awards. The results were published on Oct. 9, 2018, in IMIRT’s 2017 Game Awards Results.

- Your phones or tablets are your controllers!
- 5 fun party games included:

The Jackbox Party Pack 4
Notebookcheck reported that the game had an “Overwhelmingly Positive” Steam rating and more than 1,900 reviews when its article was written. That is a dated snapshot from Nov. 27, 2025, not a current Steam rating.
What to know about Jackbox’s multiplayer setup
The pack contains five party games, but the report’s player-count figure applies specifically to Bracketeering: it supports up to 16 players. Do not treat that as a limit shared by every game in the pack. Notebookcheck also described controller support, local split-screen play, and remote participation; it did not say that a controller is required.

How the offer fits Epic’s later December promotion
Epic says on its current Free Games page, “Epic Games Store gives you a free game every week.” Its general cadence says new free games arrive every Thursday on PC and mobile, but that does not establish the precise claim deadline for the December 2025 pair.
The separate 2025 Holiday Sale began on Dec. 11, after the reported opening-week pair. Epic’s Holiday Sale buyer’s guide said Hogwarts Legacy was free through Dec. 18. That later offer should not be confused with The Darkside Detective and The Jackbox Party Pack 4.
