No: the purported Epic Games Store December 2025 free-game schedule did not come true. Epic confirmed Hogwarts Legacy as the first Holiday Sale giveaway, but retrospective corrections from Gaming Amigos and MeriStation said the circulating list was erroneous. Its one confirmed match did not verify the remaining titles.
What the December 2025 rumor claimed
A list circulating on QQ, attributed in reporting to the Chinese social media channel HXL, purported to name Epic’s daily Holiday Sale giveaways. The original post was not independently authenticated, and the reporting did not establish that its author had insider information. Treat it as an unverified rumor, not an official Epic schedule.

The list claimed that these games would be given away, in this order:
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Jurassic World: Evolution 2
- Desperados 3
- Total War: Warhammer
- Tropico 5
- Chicken Police: Paint it Red!
- Loop Hero
- LEGO Batman
- Commander Keen
- Farming Simulator 2022
- Slime Rancher 2
- Terraria
- Detroit: Become Human
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Red Dead Redemption 2
Gaming Amigos noted when reporting the rumor that Mortal Kombat 11 was not then available on the Epic Games Store, a reason to question the list. That observation was not proof by itself; the later corrections established that the schedule did not match the actual offers.

What Epic actually confirmed
Epic’s December 11, 2025 Holiday Sale buyer’s guide confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy was free through December 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET. The sale itself ran from December 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET through January 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. ET. Epic’s confirmation applied to that first giveaway; it did not confirm the other games on the circulating list.
Why the list was debunked
In a January 2, 2026 update, Gaming Amigos explicitly called the purported leak false and reported these actual offers for December 11–31:
Rank #2
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel
- Eternights
- Blood West
- Sorry We’re Closed
- Paradise Killer
- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
- The Callisto Protocol
- Disco Elysium: The Final Cut
- We Were Here Together
- Cassette Beasts
- SKALD: Against the Black Priory
- Viewfinder
- Trine Classic Collection
- Chivalry 2
This is Gaming Amigos’ retrospective account, not a list published by Epic. MeriStation also appended a correction saying the information was erroneous and did not match the titles that appeared. Together, the corrections show why the single match—Hogwarts Legacy—was not enough to authenticate the rest of the rumor.
How many games were given away?
The reported totals use different scopes, so they should not be treated as a reconciled final count.

| Figure | Attribution and scope |
|---|---|
| 17 games | PC Gamer reported on December 12, 2025, that Epic said 17 games would be given away over the full Holiday Sale. PC Gamer’s report. |
| 15 games | Gaming Amigos counted 15 games given away by December 31, 2025. Gaming Amigos’ retrospective report. |
| $477.85 | Gaming Amigos’ reported value for those 15 games as of December 31, 2025; this was the publisher’s valuation, not an Epic figure. Gaming Amigos’ retrospective report. |
The 17-game figure referred to Epic’s forecast for the whole sale, while the 15-game count covered offers through December 31. The cited reporting does not reconcile the two scopes or establish a comparable final count.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
