Epic’s current product page lists the base game as a paid purchase, so check the live listing for present availability.
What the headline means
The headline refers to a limited-time holiday promotion. A Neowin result matching the headline said the daily giveaway sequence was underway and that the next mystery game would be revealed and unlocked on December 20. That is historical context, not a claim that Vampire Survivors can still be claimed for free: Neowin’s indexed result described the giveaway at the time, while Epic’s current Vampire Survivors listing presents the base game as a paid purchase. Store prices and availability can change by time and location.
How Epic’s 2024 holiday giveaway worked
Epic’s official 2024 Holiday Sale guide gives the campaign dates as December 12, 2024, at 11 AM ET through January 9, 2025, at 11 AM ET. It announced 16 free games to be revealed over the sale. The Neowin result places Vampire Survivors in the daily-giveaway news, but the available record does not establish an exact claim window for this game or a local-time cutoff. It also does not establish whether a particular account or other eligibility condition applied.
Epic has used daily holiday giveaways before: its 2022 Holiday Sale announcement described a “15 Days of Free Games” promotion. That earlier format is background only; it does not determine the 2024 schedule.

What Vampire Survivors is
Epic describes Vampire Survivors as a gothic-horror casual game with roguelite elements. Players fight waves of night creatures and try to last until dawn. Runs involve choosing upgrades that can build into powerful combinations; gold collected during a run can be used to buy upgrades for a future survivor.
Epic’s page describes the full game as playable in one-to-four-player couch co-op. Its current listing includes Windows and Mac OS, controller support, local multiplayer and cloud saves. A controller is an option for couch play, not a requirement. Epic lists Poncle Limited as both developer and publisher, and gives October 20, 2022, as the release date. These are details on the current listing and may change with later updates.

What is—and is not—known about the promotion
Epic’s sale guide establishes the campaign dates and its 16-game plan, but it does not provide a Vampire Survivors-specific claim count or a total number of claims for the 2024 promotion. Epic’s separate 2022 year-in-review reported 99 free games offered that year, nearly 700 million free games claimed, and $2,240 in total value per player. Those figures describe 2022 and should not be treated as statistics for the 2024 holiday sale.
