Use this order when an Epic download is slow
Work from the setting most likely to impose an artificial limit toward diagnostics that identify an outside bottleneck. This sequence avoids changing several variables at once:

- Repair stale launcher state: exit Epic Games Launcher, remove its documented webcache data, relaunch, and test again.
- Only then investigate the computer or home network: compare another device or connection so you know whether the bottleneck is local.
Epic’s official slow-download checklist describes these checks without promising a particular megabytes-per-second result. No stable, official percentage gain is established for any one setting.

Remove Epic’s download-speed limit
Exact steps
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select the Settings icon.
- Choose Settings from the menu.
- Scroll to Download Settings.
- Uncheck Limit Download Speeds.
- Restart the launcher before starting the download again.
Epic documents this sequence in its download-speed-limit instructions. The checkbox is a cap, not a guarantee that the launcher will use all available bandwidth. After removing it, the observed rate can still be constrained by your subscription, Wi‑Fi signal, router, network adapter, other traffic, storage performance, or Epic’s serving capacity.
If the option is missing or the rate does not change
- Restart the launcher completely rather than merely closing a game window; the setting may not take effect until the launcher starts again.
- Confirm that the download is actually active and that another update, installation, or scheduled transfer is not using the connection.
- Compare the launcher with another large download on the same computer. A similar rate elsewhere points toward the connection or service rather than the checkbox.
- Continue with the wired-connection and service checks below instead of repeatedly toggling the setting.
Choose wired Ethernet when Wi‑Fi is the weak link
Epic’s slow-download guidance recommends a wired connection instead of Wi‑Fi. A Cat6 Ethernet cable is a suitable physical link for connecting a gaming PC or console to the router. Ethernet can remove radio interference, distance, channel congestion, and a marginal wireless adapter from the path.

To make the comparison meaningful, start the same download, note the launcher’s displayed rate, connect Ethernet, restart or resume the transfer, and compare under similar conditions. Treat the result as a diagnosis, not a promised cable performance figure.
Check Epic, DNS, proxy, and domain conditions
Check service status first
Open Epic Games Status and look for an incident affecting downloads, authentication, or the store. A service incident is outside your computer; changing local settings will not fix it. If status is normal, continue testing because a regional or account-specific issue may not appear as a broad outage.
Try another internet connection
When possible, test the launcher on another connection, such as a different home network or a phone hotspot. A large improvement on the alternate connection points to the original router, ISP path, Wi‑Fi environment, or DNS configuration. A similar result on both connections makes a launcher, device, account, or Epic-side limitation more plausible. Mobile data can have its own throttling and data charges, so use it only as a short diagnostic.

Allow required Epic domains
Security software, firewalls, or managed networks can block the domains Epic requires for the launcher and content delivery. Epic’s checklist advises whitelisting required Epic domains. Use the domains listed in Epic’s current support guidance rather than copying an old third-party list; domain requirements and endpoints can change.
Flush DNS or test a public DNS resolver
Stale or failing DNS resolution can make the launcher connect slowly or repeatedly retry. Epic recommends flushing DNS or switching to a public DNS service as troubleshooting steps. These actions can improve name resolution, but they do not increase the bandwidth in your contract. Record the original DNS settings before changing them so you can restore a managed network’s configuration.

Epic also recommends disabling proxy servers during diagnosis. A proxy can add latency, reject large content requests, or route traffic through a congested path. If the computer belongs to a school or business, check with its administrator before changing a required proxy; restore it after the test if policy requires one.

Clear the launcher cache when behavior is stuck or abnormal
Cache clearing repairs stale or corrupted launcher state. It does not increase the bandwidth supplied by your ISP. Use it when a download is stuck at an implausible rate, the launcher displays inconsistent progress, or a normal connection test does not match launcher behavior.

Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely.
- Open the launcher’s documented cache location and remove the webcache folders specified by Epic.
- Start Epic Games Launcher again and retry the download.
macOS
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- Remove the documented
webcachedirectory for the launcher. - Relaunch and test the download.
Folder locations can differ by operating-system version and installation, so follow the paths in Epic’s launcher-cache instructions rather than deleting unrelated files. Cache removal may require signing in again or waiting while the launcher rebuilds local data.
Use newer download controls when your launcher offers them
Epic’s early-preview documentation describes additional controls that may appear only in certain launcher versions or preview cohorts. Availability and labels are not universal.

Read the current Epic early-preview download-settings documentation before relying on one of these controls. Do not assume a preview label exists on every installation.
Settings and habits that protect your Epic account
Use a unique, long password
Create a password that is not reused on another site and keep it in a reputable password manager if you use one. Reuse is dangerous because a breach elsewhere can give an attacker a working Epic credential. Never send the password, recovery codes, or one-time security codes to another person.
Protect the email account behind Epic
The email address receiving Epic messages is part of the same security boundary. Secure that mailbox with its own unique password and available two-factor protection, and review its recovery addresses and active sessions. If an attacker controls the email account, changing the Epic password alone may not restore control.

Enable the two-factor method offered in your account
Open Epic’s account-security settings and enable the two-factor option currently presented there. Epic’s cabined-account information identifies SMS-based two-factor authentication as an account feature while noting that it is unavailable for cabined accounts. The exact methods and labels can change, so use the options shown in your account rather than assuming every account has the same choices.
Keep account information private
Epic’s Community Rules state: “Keep account information safe and private. Giving access to your account puts you at risk.” Read the official Community Rules and treat requests for your password, authentication code, or recovery information as suspicious.
Review connected accounts
Inspect the Epic account page for linked console, social, or other services. Remove access you do not recognize and change the Epic password if anything looks unfamiliar. Also review active sessions and sign-in alerts where those controls are available. Linked consoles and the email account should be treated as part of one security boundary: a compromised link can undermine the main account.

Epic Parental Controls use a six-digit PIN to prevent a child from changing restrictions. Epic says controls can apply across the Epic Games Store, Epic Games Launcher, and Fortnite.

What to configure
- Set a six-digit PIN that the child cannot easily guess and do not reuse a device unlock code.
- Apply mature-content restrictions appropriate to the child’s age.
- Review related store, launcher, and Fortnite permissions together so a restriction in one product is not mistaken for coverage everywhere.
- Keep the PIN private and change it if someone who should not know it learns it.
Use Epic’s current Parental Controls help page for the live setup path and available categories. A cabined account can have feature limits; Epic’s cabined-account information explains that SMS-based two-factor authentication is unavailable in that state. Check the account’s current prompts rather than assuming an adult account and a cabined account expose identical settings.

Use symptoms to choose the next fix

- No setting guarantees a specific download speed or percentage improvement.
- Removing a cap cannot exceed the internet plan, router, adapter, storage, or Epic delivery capacity.
- Ethernet removes Wi‑Fi as a possible bottleneck but does not make a slow service fast.
- DNS changes, proxy checks, and domain whitelisting are diagnostic connectivity steps, not bandwidth upgrades.
- Cache clearing repairs launcher state; it does not change your contracted bandwidth.
- Preview download controls may disappear, move, or be renamed as Epic changes the launcher.
The practical approach is to remove the explicit launcher cap, test a stable wired path, identify service or network faults, and then harden the account and family settings that protect access. That combination addresses both sides of the problem without promising a speed the evidence cannot establish.
