Epic Games Store’s standard terms let developers keep 100% of the first $1 million in net revenue per product per calendar year from payments Epic processes. Above that threshold, Epic’s standard 88/12 revenue split applies. The policy removes Epic’s store share only within that annual cap; it does not eliminate every fee or guarantee a developer’s profit.

How much does Epic Games Store take from developers?

Under Epic’s current Developer Revenue Share FAQ, developers receive 100% of the first $1 million in net revenue for each product in a calendar year. Once that product exceeds the cap, the standard split is 88% to the developer and 12% to Epic. The threshold applies to net revenue, not gross sales.

Epic announced the change on May 1, 2025, and its June 3 update says it took effect retroactively on June 1, 2025. From 2026 onward, the annual threshold resets on January 1, regardless of when a product launched. The terms are Epic’s own policy statements, not an independent assessment of developers’ total costs.

Is the $1 million limit per game or per developer?

It is measured per product, not pooled across a developer’s catalogue. A publisher with several products can therefore have a separate annual threshold for each one. If a title has multiple publishers, they share that title’s threshold; transferring the title does not reset it. Epic’s FAQ gives these title-level rules.

Which sales count toward a product’s threshold?

Epic says the calculation combines qualifying revenue for a product across PC, Mac, iOS, iPadOS, and Android, as well as Epic-processed store and Web Shop offers. The relevant boundary is payment processing: the policy describes the revenue share on payments Epic processes, so it should not be read as covering all sales made through other channels.

Does every developer have to opt in?

No. Epic describes the standard policy as automatic for games and non-gaming apps that use Epic’s payment system; developers do not need to opt in to the standard revenue-share terms. Epic’s self-service publishing tools let developers manage product pages, pricing, offers, builds, and updates, and the store is not limited to games made with Epic’s own engine. See Epic’s distribution information for publishing details.

How do separate Epic agreements affect the split?

A title with recoupable obligations under a separate Epic agreement is subject to those terms: Epic says it recoups the agreed amount before applying the 100%/0% share. Developers should check their individual agreement rather than assume that the headline threshold overrides a separate financial commitment.

How is Epic First Run different?

Epic First Run is a separate, optional six-month exclusivity program, not part of the standard annual threshold. Eligible products can receive 100% of net revenue during that period regardless of earnings, after which standard terms apply. Eligibility includes restrictions: products must be new releases not previously released on another third-party PC store or included in a subscription service on another third-party PC store. Other terms apply, so developers should review Epic’s First Run eligibility rules before deciding whether to participate.

What should developers weigh before choosing a storefront?

The 100% share below the cap is only one part of a distribution decision. A useful comparison should account for each store’s share above and below any threshold, how revenue is measured, which platforms and payment flows count, and whether exclusivity or recoupment obligations apply. Epic’s published terms explain its policy, but do not by themselves establish that it is the best-paying option for every developer or product.
