The sale itself continued through June 11, 2020. Neither date represents a current offer: Epic’s current MEGA Sale page says its 2026 campaign has ended.
What Epic’s 2020 Mega Sale offered
Epic Games Store announced the sale on May 15, 2020, saying it would run through June 11. Its opening giveaway was Grand Theft Auto V, available to claim through May 21 at 11 a.m. Eastern. Rockstar’s announcement identifies the game as Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition. Epic’s announcement and Rockstar’s announcement document the dates and edition.
What the free edition included
Rockstar described Premium Edition as including the complete GTA V Story Mode, access to GTA Online, current and future content updates, and the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack. That is the edition covered by the 2020 giveaway, not a statement about what is included in every version sold today.
Can you still claim the free copy?
No. Epic Games Store Support says limited-time free promotions have a stated duration and must be claimed during that period to be added to an account library. The May 2020 claim window has passed, so the expired giveaway cannot be claimed through that promotion. Epic’s support guidance explains what happens when a player misses a free game.

As of October 8, 2026, Epic’s MEGA Sale page says the 2026 campaign has ended. The page describes the annual campaign as typically lasting about a month between May and June, but that general timing does not mean a sale or free GTA V offer is open now.
