Epic Games said its 2025 Holiday Sale would give away 17 free games in total. The event ran from December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026, and has ended. Hogwarts Legacy was the first offer; Epic’s official guide confirms that giveaway, while the total of 17 was reported contemporaneously by PC Gamer.
How many free games were in Epic’s 2025 holiday giveaway?
The announced total was 17 full games. In a December 12, 2025 report, PC Gamer’s Andy Chalk said Epic stated that 17 games would be given away during the sale, with Hogwarts Legacy first and 16 more to follow. Epic’s buyer’s guide confirms Hogwarts Legacy as the first free offer but does not itself state the overall total. Read PC Gamer’s report.

The figure refers to full-game giveaways. Epic Extras—such as cosmetics, in-game currency, XP boosts, and app trials—were separate offers, not additional games in the 17-game count. Epic’s Epic Extras guide describes those add-ons.
When did the 2025 Holiday Sale run?
Epic listed the sale period as December 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET / 4 p.m. GMT / 5 p.m. CET through January 8, 2026, at the same times. The event is over; its holiday giveaways are no longer claimable as part of that promotion. Epic’s Holiday Sale buyer’s guide gives the dates and first-game details.

What was the first free game?
Hogwarts Legacy was free to claim on the Epic Games Store through December 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET. Epic described the offer as available “through December 18 at 11am ET” in its buyer’s guide. That was the first giveaway, not the entire 17-game event.
Fortnite reward tied to Hogwarts Legacy
Epic also offered a Chocolate Frog Back Bling for Fortnite players who played Hogwarts Legacy for at least two hours by December 18. Epic said the reward could take 24 to 48 hours to appear after playtime was confirmed. This was a separate reward condition attached to the first game, not another free game.
