The game predicted for Epic Games Store’s Dec. 23, 2024 Holiday Giveaway was Dark and Darker with its Legendary Status add-on. The Dec. 22 report described that identification as a leak-based prediction; Notebookcheck reported the next day that Epic had revealed the bundle as that day’s free offer. The giveaway lasted 24 hours, so this is a historical promotion, not a claim that the game is still free.
What was leaked—and what Epic revealed
On Dec. 22, 2024, Notebookcheck interpreted a leaker’s initials and emoji clue as pointing to Dark and Darker – Legendary Status, while noting that the official reveal was still pending. Notebookcheck’s Dec. 22 leak report should therefore be read as a prediction, not confirmation.
Notebookcheck’s Dec. 23 follow-up reported that Epic had revealed Dark and Darker bundled with Legendary Status for that day’s giveaway. The reported 24-hour window has passed.
What Legendary Status adds
Epic describes Legendary Status as an upgrade to a free Squire account. Its listing names access to High-Roller dungeons and the Arena, nine additional character slots, a shared stash, a Triumph experience boost, and marketplace and trading access. Epic says the extra trading privileges unlock 72 hours after Legendary status is activated.

The add-on is account-dependent: Epic warns that players whose accounts have already been upgraded to Legendary through another method or platform receive no additional bonuses from buying it. Check the account’s status before considering another purchase.
What kind of game is Dark and Darker?
IRONMACE describes Dark and Darker as an “Unforgiving Hardcore First-Person Fantasy Dungeon Adventure.” Its description centers on party play, fantasy roles, monsters, rival treasure hunters, and the risk of losing carried loot when a character dies. Epic classifies the add-on under Adventure, Dungeon Crawler, and Survival, and lists online multiplayer. These are the developer’s and store’s descriptions, not independent gameplay findings.

What did “worth $30” mean?
Notebookcheck’s Dec. 23, 2024 report said the game was priced at $30 on Steam at that time. That is a dated Steam price claim from the article, not a current price check and not a statement of Epic’s price. The giveaway’s headline value should not be treated as evidence of what the game or add-on costs now.
