Later coverage identified Hogwarts Legacy as the first confirmed title in Epic’s 2025 holiday giveaway. The official Epic event page confirms the show’s date and context, but does not itself verify the giveaway announcement.
What Epic’s official page confirms
Epic Games Store’s The Game Awards 2025 event page lists the show for Thursday, December 11, 2025, and describes it as a live-streamed event featuring news and announcements. That establishes the event date; the page does not confirm the specific giveaway claim.

What was reported on December 11
A VGTimes report published December 11, 2025, said an Epic mystery-game promotion would begin after 8 p.m. ET. At the time of that report, the game’s identity had not been officially revealed. The article also repeated a possible title as a rumor, not a confirmed identification.
What the game turned out to be
A later retrospective by The Escapist identifies Hogwarts Legacy as the first confirmed game in the 2025 holiday giveaway and connects it with The Game Awards. This is a retrospective secondary account, rather than an Epic announcement confirming the giveaway on its event page.

How to read the “officially announces” claim
The evidence supports a narrower account than the original headline wording: the show took place on December 11, 2025; contemporaneous coverage described a mystery-game promotion; and later reporting identified Hogwarts Legacy as the first confirmed giveaway game. The official event page reviewed confirms the show, not the giveaway itself. The promotion and its reveal are historical news, not an upcoming December 11 event.
