EpicDB’s June 2024 launch drew attention after reports described unpublished and codenamed entries in its Epic Games Store database. Some listing details appeared to point to recognizable games, but those clues were not official announcements—and Epic Games said it had updated the store to stop third-party tools from surfacing new unpublished product titles.
What EpicDB is
EpicDB describes itself as “a 3rd party tool that aims to act as a database for everything on the Epic Games Store.” Its landing page currently labels the service as being in alpha. That description does not establish whether every feature that existed at launch remains available today. EpicDB

What appeared around the June 2024 launch
On June 12, 2024, Gematsu reported that unpublished and codenamed product entries had become visible, including listings associated with Square Enix and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Reporters matched some metadata and item names to possible game identities; the matches should be understood as interpretations of database clues, not publisher confirmations. Gematsu’s report
Clues associated with Sony and Square Enix
- “Utah”: Gematsu reported that a Sony entry with this codename had a custom save-folder attribute pointing to The Last of Us Part II, prompting speculation about a PC version.
- “Momo” and “Skobeloff”: Square Enix entries with these codenames included item names and custom attributes that suggested connections to Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy XVI.
Those labels and metadata may support a plausible identification, but they do not prove that a project was approved, still in development, or scheduled for release. Gematsu also noted that some codenames had no identifiable information and that older entries could be tests or abandoned projects. It was unclear whether one listing under an unknown organization was official. Gematsu’s report

Other reported references
Insider Gaming’s June 12 report described references to The Last of Us Part II on PC, a Turok title, Sonic x Shadow Generations DLC, and Final Fantasy IX-related items such as an upgrade and preorder bonuses. These, too, were reported database references rather than a blanket set of confirmed announcements. Insider Gaming said EpicDB was down when its report was written; that was a report-time observation, not evidence of the site’s current status. Insider Gaming’s report
Epic Games’ response
Epic Games told Gematsu: “We released an update tonight so third-party tools can’t surface any new unpublished product titles from the Epic Games Store catalog.” The statement confirms that Epic said it had introduced a mitigation. It does not identify which rumored projects were real or explain the update’s technical details. Gematsu’s report

How to read an EpicDB listing
A database entry is a clue, not a release announcement. A custom attribute, associated item, or recognizable codename can suggest an identity, but it does not establish the project’s status or plans. Entries may also reflect testing, abandoned work, or uncertain data. Treat a specific game as confirmed only when its publisher or developer makes an official announcement.
