Escape from Tarkov 0.16.0.0 launched with the December 26, 2024 wipe. It is a systems-heavy update: winter now affects visibility, stamina and movement; Customs has been substantially rebuilt; seven new weapons and items expand the arsenal; recoil presentation has been reworked; Prestige progression begins at PvP level 55; and AI, Hideout customization and the economy all received changes. Early hotfix work then targeted Ground Zero, PvE progression, profile synchronization and several interaction bugs.

Grant Taylor-Hill characterized the wipe as arriving “hand-in-hand with the 0.16.0.0 update,” and the scope explains why the patch feels different even before you reach the new progression systems.
Winter is a gameplay system, not just a visual filter
Frostbite changes how long you can stay exposed
Frostbite reduces a player’s visibility and stamina. That makes open-ground crossings and prolonged outdoor fights more dangerous: you can lose both information and endurance before an opponent ever fires. The effect clears when you reach a shelter, stand near a burning barrel, or drink alcohol. Those recovery conditions turn cover and map knowledge into survival resources rather than mere conveniences.
Khorovod adds a winter event layer
Khorovod is the update’s winter-themed event. It sits alongside the regular raid experience as a distinct seasonal addition, so players should treat winter event activity as part of the 0.16 season rather than as a permanent replacement for every raid type.

Snow affects movement, sight lines and sound
Snowdrifts alter how routes feel and can change the sight lines around familiar terrain. Updated snow effects reinforce the seasonal conditions, while every location received winter-specific sound design. Factory also received a dedicated winter theme. Audio cues therefore deserve renewed attention: environmental sound can feel different even on a map whose basic layout has not changed.
Customs received a substantial rebuild
Visual and structural work
0.16.0.0 updates old textures and materials, replaces older objects and rebuilds selected buildings. Opaque glass was replaced with transparent glass, changing what can be seen through windows and making some previously safe approaches more exposed.

New interiors and points of interest
Three buildings in the industrial territory are now open. The update also adds new points of interest, giving players more places to investigate, hold or bypass during a rotation. Explosive propane cylinders add a new environmental hazard: do not treat industrial cover as harmless until you have checked what can detonate nearby.
Transit and extraction changes
A Shoreline transit was added, and Customs gained new extracts. Existing mental maps are consequently unreliable for both movement and extraction. On your first raids after the wipe, allow extra time to inspect the opened industrial buildings, identify the new transit location and verify which exits are available to your character before committing to a long route.

New weapons and equipment
| Item | Type | Caliber or specification |
|---|---|---|
| RShG-2 | Rocket launcher | 72.5 mm |
| Sako TRG M10 | Bolt-action rifle | .338 Lapua Magnum |
| Aklys Defense Velociraptor | Assault rifle | .300 Blackout |
| Saiga-12K | Automatic shotgun | 12 gauge |
| FN SCAR-H X-17 | Assault rifle | 7.62×51 |
| Akula | Push dagger | Not stated |
| V40 Mini-Grenade | Grenade | Not stated |
The roster spans a specialist launcher, a .338 bolt-action rifle, two assault rifles, an automatic 12-gauge platform and two close-quarters or throwable additions. The patch notes establish their inclusion and specifications above, but do not establish a universal ranking or damage comparison between them.
Recoil now has more visible weapon movement
The recoil overhaul changes what the player sees and feels while firing, rather than being only a simple numerical adjustment. The update adds or revises:
- Random weapon sway and horizontal rotation.
- The bolt striking the receiver.
- Camera shake generated by the buttstock.
- Slight pistol-barrel sway.
- Shotgun inertia and effects tied to caliber power.
- Revised third-person aiming animations.
In practical terms, a familiar gun can appear less visually locked to the center of the screen, and shotguns can communicate their weight and power differently. Judge the new handling after firing the weapon in the updated Shooting Range rather than relying on pre-wipe muscle memory, especially when switching between first- and third-person views.
Prestige and progression
PvP entry requirement
Prestige becomes available in PvP once a character reaches level 55, provided the additional prerequisites are also met. Level 55 is the stated threshold; the update summary does not provide a complete list of the other conditions, so reaching that level alone should not be treated as a guarantee of immediate access.
Tarkov Arena
Prestige also appears in Tarkov Arena, extending the progression concept beyond the standard PvP raid path. The two modes should not be assumed to have identical practical requirements unless the game shows the same condition in each mode.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.AI opponents are more capable and more aggressive
Partisan, Raiders, Rogues and other bots can use under-barrel grenade launchers after the update. Their behavior is also more aggressive, with increased use of flanking and suppression. A position that held against predictable frontal pushes can therefore become unsafe when a bot team fixes you in place and attacks from another angle. Keep exits available, avoid overcommitting to one firing lane and account for grenade-launcher capability when choosing cover.
Hideout, economy and general quality-of-life changes
- Hideout customization gives players more control over the appearance and arrangement of the space.
- The maximum ruble stack increased from 500,000 to 1,000,000.
- Weapons and items were rebalanced across the update.
The larger stack limit reduces the need to split large cash holdings, while customization is primarily a personalisation change. The balance pass is broad, so individual weapon performance should be checked in the current build rather than inferred from older wipe guides.
What the 0.16.0.1 follow-up addressed
The first day produced enough technical reports for Battlestate Games’ official channel to thank players for their feedback and list several active problems. The issues discussed around the 0.16.0.1 technical follow-up included:

| Problem reported after launch | Where it appeared |
|---|---|
| Loot-loading freezes | Ground Zero |
| Profile synchronization problems | EFT and Arena |
| Raid progress not counting | PvE |
| Backend errors | PvE |
| Scav timers resetting to zero | Scav raids |
| Interactions failing | Hideout |
| Unlock failures | Jaeger |
| Task failure | Mechanic’s “Getting Acquainted” could fail when accepted before Patch 0.16 |
Subsequent technical updates reported fixes covering many of these launch problems and additional issues, including VoIP, healing animations, environment sounds, Christmas Tree interactions, PvE clothing, Shooting Range customization and Prestige mannequin poses. If a problem persists, first confirm whether you are running 0.16.0.0 or the later 0.16.0.1-era build before assuming it is a new gameplay rule.
Quick Recap
How to adapt your first raids after the wipe
- Carry a winter plan. Learn where shelters and burning barrels are located so Frostbite does not end a rotation in the open.
- Re-map Customs. Recheck the three opened industrial buildings, transparent-glass sight lines, propane-cylinder hazards, Shoreline transit and new extracts before using an old route guide.
- Recalibrate recoil. Test your preferred rifle, pistol and shotgun in the Shooting Range and account for the new visual movement and third-person animations.
- Respect bot angles. Assume that Partisan, Raiders, Rogues and other bots may flank, suppress or use an under-barrel grenade launcher.
- Verify progression and stability. At level 55, inspect the current Prestige requirements in-game; in PvE or Arena, confirm that profile and raid progress has saved before queuing again if synchronization errors appear.
