What changed in Tarkov PvE patch 1.2.0.0?
The patch notes describe a broad rework of AI-controlled PMCs rather than one isolated adjustment. The intended changes touch how bots relate to one another, where and when they appear, how they move, and how their equipment and difficulty scale. SteamDB’s listing of the October 6, 2026 patch notes is the source for these intended behaviors; it does not independently verify how consistently they work in raids.

- More varied relationships: USEC and BEAR PMC bots have increased chances of teaming up or remaining non-hostile to one another. A small chance also exists for a bot to remain neutral toward a player PMC until approached or attacked.
- More bot-on-bot fighting: PMC bots are intended to fight Scavs and bosses more often. Against player Scavs, they are not supposed to attack first unless approached or attacked.
- More active movement: Bots are meant to move more often toward points of interest and task areas, using less linear and more varied routes.
- More consistent presence: PMC bots are intended to be present from raid start, with more consistent numbers and more evenly distributed spawns.
- Level-linked threat and equipment: The notes describe lower-level bots as less dangerous and equipped with lower-tier gear, and higher-level bots as more dangerous and better equipped.
Why are players saying the AI feels worse?
The early complaints point in two different directions. In one first-day PvE discussion, a player described encountering more PMC bots in unexpected places and feeling that they were more aggressive, including perceived shots or grenades through cover. The poster wondered whether the shooting might be suppression fire, so the post does not establish wall tracking or confirm a bug.

Those accounts can both be true: a bot may feel more threatening in a particular fight while still looking static or artificial in another. But two individual posts cannot show how common either experience is, or whether the average raid is now better or worse.
Does the update prove PvE is ruined?
No. The patch notes set out design goals, and the first-day posts document individual reactions; neither establishes overall results. The available sources do not provide controlled before-and-after testing, measured encounter rates, or a representative player survey. The strongest supported conclusion is narrower: the AI rework has drawn complaints about both perceived aggression and insufficiently dynamic movement, while some players also noticed more gear variety.

That tension matters in PvE, where PMC characters are AI-controlled rather than other players. A raid can feel more dangerous without feeling more believable: harder aim or more frequent encounters do not, by themselves, make bot movement seem human. GamesRadar+’s Escape from Tarkov review offers general context on PvE’s slower, AI-driven character and the game’s steep learning curve, but it is not an assessment of patch 1.2.0.0.
What else did patch 1.2.0.0 add?
The update also introduced six PvE Prestige levels. According to the patch notes, eligible players can reset PvE profile progression while retaining some gear, a percentage of skills, and weapon mastery, up to the stated limit. The first PvE Prestige level has reduced requirements compared with PvP, and the reset affects PvE only. This progression feature is separate from the PMC AI changes.

How to judge whether the rework is working for you
A single surprising encounter can make a change feel dramatic, but it cannot isolate which part of the rework is responsible. If you are comparing raids, keep the conditions as consistent as you can and track distinct behaviors rather than treating “the AI” as one thing:
- Where PMC bots spawn and how often you encounter them.
- Whether they move toward points of interest or remain stationary.
- How often they engage Scavs, bosses, or the player, and who initiates.
- What gear they carry and whether it appears to vary with bot level.
- Whether the encounter feels challenging, unfair, or simply less believable.
Without consistent locations, raid conditions, and bot levels, impressions can be difficult to compare. The first community reactions are best read as signals of what players are noticing—not a definitive scorecard for PvE.
