The Escape from Tarkov Hardcore Wipe was a July 2025 progression reset designed to slow early-game progress. Its restrictions were not permanent: Battlestate Games described a wave-based rollout, the launch rules were subsequently eased, and the event should be read as dated history—not as the current wipe rules.
What was the Hardcore Wipe in Escape from Tarkov?
It was a July 2025 progression reset with systems and access limited at the start. Battlestate Games said features would come online in waves as players progressed, with locations gradually opening. Studio head Nikita Buyanov described the aim as: “we will gradually switch on features like traders [loyalty levels], locations and everything to simulate and slow down OG gameplay of Escape from Tarkov.” PC Gamer published the statement on July 15, 2025.
What were the Hardcore Wipe restrictions at launch?
The following describes the initial state reported at launch, not a permanent rule set. PC Gamer reported that only Customs and Factory were directly selectable—two of eleven maps—and that players had to use in-game transit to reach other maps. It also reported that most quests were unavailable, the flea market was disabled, and ammo crafting was limited. These specific launch details come from PC Gamer’s contemporaneous reporting.
The initial rules also included a 100% boss spawn chance, according to PC Gamer’s reporting. That figure changed during the event; it should not be treated as a lasting setting.

What changed after the Hardcore Wipe launched?
By July 15, map access and boss spawns had changed
PC Gamer reported on July 15, 2025, that all locations were selectable again and the boss spawn chance had been reduced from the initial 100% to 70%. Those are dated event updates, not current settings.
Battlestate adjusted tasks, traders, and costs
Battlestate Games later documented reopening previously unavailable tasks and increasing trader loyalty levels when players met the requirements. It also said it had cut insurance costs in half and increased rare-loot spawn chances, while adjusting repair costs, trader restocks, and item prices. Battlestate’s official Telegram channel documented these changes.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are these the current Escape from Tarkov wipe rules?
No: the restrictions above describe the 2025 event and its changes, not a standing mode. A report dated August 3, 2026, says patch 1.1.0.0 introduced a seasonal PvP mode and replaced the traditional wipe system for regular PvP and PvE with seasonal progression. That account is secondary coverage dated August 3, 2026; current rules can change, so check the official patch notes for the applicable mode and version before relying on a present-day wipe description.
