Unlock Jaeger by completing Mechanic’s Introduction quest: find the encrypted message beneath the hunting stand near the crashed plane on Woods, extract with it, then hand it to Mechanic. The message appears only while the quest is active, and dying after picking it up means you must retrieve it again.
How to unlock Jaeger
- Check Mechanic’s task list and accept Introduction. Prerequisite listings differ between guides and may change with the game. Use your current in-game task list to see what you need before the quest becomes available.
- Enter Woods with Introduction active. Travel to the area near the crashed plane and look beneath the hunting stand for the encrypted message. Mechanic’s clue in the quest dialogue is: “Look where the hunter would wait for his prey. Where the iron bird has fallen”.
- Pick up the encrypted message. It only appears when Introduction is active.
- Extract from the raid. If you die after collecting the message, you lose it and will need to return for it.
- Hand the message to Mechanic. Completing Introduction unlocks Jaeger as a trader.
What to know about prerequisites and rewards
Current guide information lists Essential tasks (Mechanic) as the preceding quest, while older wiki information lists level 2 and Gunsmith – Part 1. Because those requirements conflict, do not rely on the older listing as universal; check the tasks shown in your own game.
The quest reward listing gives 4,500 experience and 30,000 roubles. These are in-game quest rewards; the listing does not state a publication year.
Where to find the message on Woods
Head to the crashed plane and search beneath the nearby hunting stand. The exact approach can be easier to orient by the plane than by trying to follow a compass direction. The item is not available before you accept Introduction, so make sure the task is active before looking for it.
