Yes. To launch Escape from Tarkov through Steam, an existing owner must buy a Steam edition and link the existing Battlestate Games account. The Steam release arrived on November 15, 2025. If you are happy using the Battlestate Games launcher, you do not need to buy the game again just to play with people who bought it on Steam.
What existing Tarkov owners need to do
Battlestate Games says players must purchase any Steam edition to play through Steam. A copy bought on the official Tarkov website or through the Battlestate launcher is a separate license: website keys can only be activated on the website or in the Battlestate launcher, not redeemed as Steam keys. Battlestate Games’ Steam FAQ
- Buy an edition of Escape from Tarkov on Steam.
- Link the Steam account to your existing Battlestate Games account as directed by Battlestate.
- Install the Steam version. Battlestate says it requires a full reinstall; existing Battlestate launcher files cannot be carried over.
A Battlestate Games account remains required, including for Steam players. Steam’s listing identifies it as a required third-party account. Steam store listing
What happens to your progress and edition
Battlestate says progress remains on the linked Battlestate profile. If the Steam and Battlestate accounts have different editions, the higher edition applies when you launch through Steam. For example, if you own Standard on Steam and The Unheard through Battlestate, the higher Battlestate edition applies. Battlestate Games’ Steam FAQ

Do Steam buyers play on separate servers?
No server split is described: Battlestate says players use the same servers regardless of where they bought the game. You can therefore keep using the Battlestate launcher without buying a Steam copy solely to play alongside Steam purchasers. Battlestate Games’ Steam FAQ

Is buying it again worthwhile?
Buy a Steam edition if launching and managing the game through Steam is important enough to justify a second purchase and full reinstall. If you only want to play the game and already use the Battlestate launcher, keep using it: the official FAQ says purchase channel does not determine the servers you play on. Link the existing Battlestate profile if you do choose Steam, so your progress and higher edition are associated with that profile.
