When was Escape from Tarkov patch 0.14.6.0 released?
Battlestate Games announced that installation was planned for April 25, 2024, at 8:00 AM BST / 3:00 AM EDT. The studio estimated maintenance would take about six hours, with a possible extension, and warned that the game would be inaccessible during installation. What was the update’s main focus?
The update summary identified The Unheard Edition as its main focus and said it could be purchased or upgraded through the official Escape from Tarkov website at that time. Its 2024 feature list included:
- PvE co-op access with progression that would persist through wipes.
- An enhanced 10×72 stash, higher starting character skill levels, and expanded PMC pockets.
- Additional equipment and resources in the stash.
- A unique in-game ID, radio-electronic item, melee weapon, and armband.
- Longer mail retention, more Flea Market slots, and increased Fence standing.
- A different main-menu background and Early Test Server access.

What changed in gameplay?
Season, movement, and combat feedback
The reproduced in-game notes say the season changed to late spring. They also list reduced base inertia strength, reduced aim punch, less blur when taking damage, and less camera shake while shooting. Body-hitbox penetration
Under the revised rule, a round penetrates a body hitbox when its penetration-power statistic is greater than that hitbox’s penetration threshold. The listed threshold for the head, forearm, shoulder, calf, and thigh was 20. This is a strict “greater than” condition, not a guarantee that every hit penetrates.

A bullet loses damage and penetration power when it passes through a body hitbox, so a subsequent hitbox receives reduced damage. The notes say this reduction depends primarily on the round’s penetration-power statistic and secondarily on caliber and the hitbox threshold: higher penetration power and larger caliber mean a smaller reduction. Armor penetration
The notes state that a round is guaranteed to penetrate when its penetration-power statistic is 15 greater than the armor’s effective durability. For intact armor, effective durability is described as approximately the armor class multiplied by 10; as armor loses durability, its effective durability falls.

The guarantee has important qualifications: cartridges can have small starting variation in penetration, and penetration can degrade as a bullet loses velocity or collides with armor, body hitboxes, or obstacles. The armor rule is therefore not a promise that every shot with a nominal statistic 15 points above a class-derived estimate will penetrate under all conditions. The update describes two related but distinct checks. Body-hitbox penetration uses a threshold assigned to the hitbox, and passing through a body hitbox reduces a bullet’s damage and penetration power. Armor penetration instead compares the round’s penetration statistic with armor’s effective durability, which changes as the armor is damaged.
