If Escape from Tarkov is downloading slowly, first check whether other downloads on the same device and network are slow too. That quick comparison helps distinguish a broader connection problem from a slowdown limited to the BSG Launcher. Battlestate Games has acknowledged launcher download issues in the past, so a slow rate does not automatically mean your PC or router is at fault.
Check whether the slowdown is limited to Tarkov
- Record what the launcher shows. Note the displayed rate and its units, whether this is a new installation or an update, and the approximate time. Mbps means megabits per second; MB/s means megabytes per second. Since 8 bits equal 1 byte, the two figures are not directly interchangeable.
- Compare another download on the same connection. While Tarkov is slow, run a reputable speed test or download a large file from another service. This comparison is a diagnostic clue, not proof of the cause.
- Check a second device or connection if one is readily available. If another device on the same network is also slow, or if other services are affected, the issue may be broader than the launcher. If only Tarkov is slow, launcher delivery or the route to it is plausible, but not confirmed.
Check for Battlestate service issues
Battlestate Games’ official channel acknowledged connection and authorization difficulties around Escape from Tarkov’s 1.0 release, then listed problems downloading Escape from Tarkov and EFT: Arena through the BSG Launcher and Steam among technical issues it was addressing. Those announcements relate to the November 2025 release period; they do not establish that an outage is active now. Check Battlestate Games’ official announcement for that historical context and its current official communications for newer updates.
If other downloads are slow too
When the slowdown affects unrelated downloads on the same device or network, try low-risk checks before changing settings:
- Pause other large downloads or streams using the connection.
- If convenient, compare Wi-Fi with an already available wired connection.
- Restart the router if doing so will not interrupt important work or other users.
- If several devices and services remain slow, contact your ISP and describe when the slowdown occurs.
These checks can help identify a local or ISP-wide problem, but none by itself identifies the cause.

If only the BSG Launcher is slow
A launcher-specific delivery issue or network route is one possibility when other downloads work normally. Community reports describe mixed results from trying a VPN or WARP, renewing an IP address, or changing IPv6 settings. These are individual anecdotes, not official Battlestate instructions or guaranteed fixes. One user also reported a “suspicious activity” warning while using a VPN. Read the community discussion with those qualifications in mind.
If you choose to experiment with network settings, change one thing at a time and record the original setting so you can restore it. Stop and revert a change if it makes the launcher, security, or other connectivity behave worse. Do not use tools that modify or bypass the game launcher or its integrity checks. Avoid broad security disabling or a destructive reinstall as an opening step; the available sources do not establish either as a suitable first-line fix.

When to contact Battlestate support
If the slowdown persists, Steam Support lists Battlestate Games’ Customer Support Website and [email protected] as official contact routes. Verify the route on the official site before sending account or diagnostic information. Include details that help support narrow down the issue:
- Your approximate location or region, ISP, and the time the slowdown occurred.
- Whether you are installing the game or downloading an update.
- The launcher’s displayed rate, including whether it is MB/s or Mbps.
- Whether other downloads or devices on the same network were also slow.
- The launcher version, exact error text if any, and the troubleshooting steps you tried.
