Their appearances change as Ranni’s quest advances, and the Radahn Festival can begin through different routes. The right checkpoint depends on whether you have met Ranni, started the festival, defeated Radahn, given Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade, or reached the Ainsel River.
First, identify your current quest stage
Use your last completed objective to choose where to look next. Blaidd’s appearance in Siofra River is an early checkpoint, not a permanent spawn. Once the festival or later quest stages are active, returning to an earlier location may not help.

- Met Ranni, but have not reached Radahn: check Siofra River for Blaidd.
- The Radahn Festival is active: check Redmane Castle and proceed through the festival.
- Defeated Radahn: continue to Nokron for Ranni’s next major objective.
- Given Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade: follow the later quest checkpoints rather than looking for Blaidd in Siofra.
- Reached the Ainsel River/Lake of Rot segment: look for Blaidd’s later appearance along that route.
If Ranni is missing at Ranni’s Rise
Ranni is found at the top of Ranni’s Rise in the garden area of Caria Manor. If you have not yet started her quest, go there and speak with her. Afterward, speak with the members of her group downstairs and exhaust their available dialogue before leaving. This sequence is described in PC Gamer’s Ranni’s quest walkthrough, published August 8, 2022.
If you have already moved beyond that meeting, do not assume Ranni must still be waiting at the tower. Use your completed objectives to determine the next step instead.

If Blaidd is missing from Siofra River
For the early Ranni quest sequence, enter Siofra River through the Siofra River Well in the Mistwoods of East Limgrave. PC Gamer’s walkthrough places Blaidd farther inside the underground region after the meeting with Ranni. If you have not yet started Ranni’s quest, complete the Ranni’s Rise meeting and speak with her companions first.
If the Radahn Festival is already active, your save may have moved past the point at which a linear guide expects you to find Blaidd in Siofra. Check Redmane Castle instead.

If the Radahn Festival has started
The festival does not have just one trigger. In its guide to entering the Realm of Shadow, published June 21, 2024, Bandai Namco says it can begin through Ranni-and-Blaidd quest progress, through Jerren and Iji after starting Ranni’s quest, or simply by reaching Altus Plateau and resting at a Site of Grace. That means the festival can be active even if your progress does not match a walkthrough’s expected sequence.
When the festival is active, go to Redmane Castle and progress through the Radahn encounter rather than repeatedly searching Siofra for Blaidd. The alternate triggers are explained in Bandai Namco’s Realm of Shadow guide.
If Radahn is already defeated
Radahn’s defeat opens the way to Nokron, where the next major Ranni quest objective in PC Gamer’s walkthrough is the Fingerslayer Blade. Find the blade and give it to Ranni to continue the quest. If you have already defeated Radahn, you do not need to find Blaidd in Siofra first to make progress.
Where to look for Blaidd in later quest stages
Later appearances depend on later quest states, so use these checkpoints only if you have reached the corresponding stage:

- During the Ainsel River route near the Lake of Rot: the walkthrough places Blaidd’s shade on this later part of the quest route.
These are stage-specific locations, not universal fixes for every report of a missing NPC. PC Gamer’s walkthrough dates to 2022 and is not platform-specific.

The available information supports quest progression and alternate festival triggers as explanations; it does not establish a widespread missing-NPC bug or a guaranteed reset procedure. No single action—such as resting, reloading, or seeking absolution—is confirmed to restore every absent appearance.
If you have followed the relevant stage and the NPC is still absent, note your last completed objective, platform and edition, and whether Radahn has been defeated. Those details determine which checkpoint applies and are more useful than repeating an earlier search.
