Escape from Tarkov launched its 1.0 version on Steam on November 15, 2025. Ahead of release, Battlestate Games offered Steam preorders a 25% discount across all editions listed on Steam, and a preload became available despite Steam’s earlier FAQ saying one was not planned. The preorder offer has expired; it should not be confused with a separate Steam promotion displayed on October 8, 2026.
What the Steam discount covered
Battlestate Games announced a 25% discount on all Escape from Tarkov editions presented on Steam, exclusively for Steam users and valid until the official release. The announcement also said the game had passed 1,000,000 Steam wishlists in 2025. Battlestate Games’ preorder announcement described the offer as a preorder promotion, not a permanent Steam discount.
The game’s official channel confirmed that Escape from Tarkov 1.0 released on November 15, 2025. It announced that installation of the 1.0 update had begun and estimated that installation would take approximately 24 hours. That was the announced expectation, not a confirmed measure of the actual duration. The same post said EFT PvP would receive a wipe and EFT: Arena a partial wipe. The official 1.0 release post contains those launch details.
Steam preload: the plan changed before release
Steam’s September 16, 2025 FAQ initially said a pre-download before launch was not planned. The Steam FAQ reflects that earlier plan; it was not the final launch state. PC Gamer later reported that a preload was available ahead of release, at a little over 33 GB before launch-day patches. That figure describes the reported preload, not the full final installation size. PC Gamer’s launch-period report covered the change.

Do existing Battlestate owners need to buy it on Steam?
Yes, if they want to launch and play the game through Steam. The FAQ says players must purchase any edition on Steam to play through that platform, then link their Steam profile to a Battlestate Games account. Buying the game through Battlestate’s website does not provide a key that can be activated on Steam.
Linking gives Steam access to the Battlestate profile; it does not move progression to a new Steam-only profile. Progress remains on the linked Battlestate profile. The FAQ also says players use the same servers regardless of where they bought the game. Steam is therefore an additional purchase for existing owners who specifically want Steam access, rather than a way to convert a website purchase into a Steam license. Steam’s FAQ explains the purchase and account-linking requirements.
