The timeline is his reported description of the studio’s schedule—not a comparison confirmed by published target and release dates. PvE arrived in mid-2024, while Buyanov said the studio’s main focus remained the game’s PvPvE experience.
Why was Tarkov’s PvE mode added early?
In remarks reported by Insider Gaming on November 12, 2025, Buyanov said PvE had originally been planned for after Escape from Tarkov’s release. He said the team worked to bring it forward and ultimately added it approximately a year and a half earlier than intended.
“Fun fact – PvE mode was planned to add after the release, but we were working 24/7 to bring it faster and finally added it approx. year and a half earlier than planned.”
That figure should be read as Buyanov’s account of the schedule, as reproduced by Insider Gaming. The report does not establish the original planned date or independently verify the interval. It places the mode’s introduction in mid-2024, alongside the Unheard Edition.

Was Escape from Tarkov originally intended to be a PvE game?
Not according to Buyanov’s reported remarks. He said Tarkov was not initially intended as a PvE game, but the studio changed course to serve more players. That explains the decision to add the mode; it does not establish that PvE became the game’s primary direction.
What does Battlestate plan for PvE?
Buyanov said PvE would be enhanced in the future, while the studio continued to focus more on PvPvE.

This is a broad statement of intent, not a dated roadmap or a commitment to particular features. The report does not specify what future PvE changes would include.

Did the report say PvE players would need to reset for the 1.0 story?
Yes. Insider Gaming reported that PvE profiles would require an account reset to experience the branching story planned for version 1.0. That is the report’s account of the planned 1.0 experience in November 2025; it does not verify whether the reset requirement remains current. The report also noted that Buyanov had previously predicted around half of players might eventually move into PvE as wipes continued, but provided no data showing that this had happened.
