In The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), equipment sets grant tiered bonuses as you equip more matching pieces. You can combine pieces from different sets, but a five-piece bonus placed partly on weapons is active only on the weapon bar carrying those pieces. Dropped gear can be tracked in the Item Set Collection and, once collected, reconstructed at a Transmutation Station; crafted sets follow a separate trait-research requirement.
How ESO set bonuses work
A set bonus activates when you equip its required number of pieces. Bonuses unlock at progressively higher piece thresholds, so a partial set can provide some benefits without completing the full set. Bethesda Support notes that you can receive benefits from more than one set; players can combine sets across armor and weapon slots.
Weapon pieces count toward a set just like armor, with important slot rules: a one-handed weapon counts as one piece, while a two-handed weapon counts as two. If the pieces needed for a five-piece bonus are split between gear and a weapon, the bonus is active only while the weapon bar carrying that weapon is selected. This makes bar placement part of the set decision, not just an equipment detail.
- Monster sets: These are two-piece sets.
- Mythic items: These are special one-piece sets, and a character can wear only one mythic item at a time.

How to collect and track dropped sets
The Item Set Collection, often called the Stickerbook, records eligible dropped set pieces across activities such as questing, overland content, Trials, and dungeons. The collection helps you see which eligible pieces your account has bound and which are still missing, rather than requiring you to keep every item in your inventory or bank.
According to the official Item Set Collection guide, an eligible item is added to the collection when it becomes bound to your account. Equipping, deconstructing, fencing, researching, or selling an item to an NPC can bind it; after an NPC sale, collection credit may be delayed while the item remains available through buyback. Crafted set items are not stored in the collection.

How to reconstruct a collected item
Reconstruction is a way to create another copy of an eligible set item you have collected. It is different from crafting a set item at a crafting station: reconstruction uses Transmutation Crystals and is done at a Transmutation Station.
- Open the Sets menu at a Transmutation Station.
- Choose a collected set and the specific item you want to recreate.
- Select the trait for the reconstructed item. The collection guide says reconstruction lets you choose a trait.
- Spend the required Transmutation Crystals to complete the reconstruction.
- If you want a higher-quality item, upgrade it with the appropriate materials; those upgrade materials are separate from the reconstruction cost.
The crystal cost decreases as you collect more pieces of the set. The official Item Set Collection guide describes the cost reduction and quality-upgrade requirement, but does not establish a single cost that applies to every player and set.

How crafting set items differs
Crafting a set item depends on trait research for the specific item type you want to make. Your character must have researched at least the minimum number of traits required by that set for that item. The requirement is item-specific, so the number of traits researched for one equipment type does not automatically qualify you to craft every other type in the set.
Trait research also matters when adding a trait to a crafted item. For details on set crafting requirements, see the official crafting armor for a specific set support article and the guide to item traits and trait research.

What is established about monster-set helmets
For monster sets, Bethesda Support specifically says the helmet can randomly drop from the end boss of the respective dungeon and that Veteran difficulty is required. This describes helmet acquisition only; it does not establish the source or odds for every monster-set piece. Consult the official Monster Helm Sets support entry for that documented rule.
How to choose and verify a set combination
There is no universally best set combination established by these system rules. Compare a candidate set by the bonuses it grants at each threshold, the content from which its pieces are obtained, whether the pieces fit your weapon-bar arrangement, and whether you can craft or reconstruct the items you need. Exact effects and rankings can change with updates, so verify item tooltips and the relevant current patch notes before following a build recommendation. ESO’s official Game Updates index is the starting point for update history.
