Esoteric Ebb Cheats: Tips, Unlockables, and Strategy Guide

Esoteric Ebb has no reliably documented cheat codes or console commands. The useful meaning of “cheats” here is a set of tested-in-context habits for dialogue, exploration, character building, Questing Tree feats, spells, equipment, secrets, and achievements. Start with the spoiler-light route below; use the marked completionist sections only when you are ready for major reveals.

What Esoteric Ebb is—and what “cheats” can safely mean

Esoteric Ebb is a single-player, isometric CRPG from developer Christoffer Bodegård and publisher Raw Fury. It launched on Steam on March 3, 2026. You play the Cleric, investigating a tea-shop explosion while an election and political intrigue reshape Norvik. The game combines branching conversations, dice-based encounters, reality-shaping magic, character customization, and a progression system called the Questing Tree.

Searches for “Esoteric Ebb cheats” therefore lead most usefully to strategy and unlockable advice rather than button codes. The available guides document walkthroughs, secrets, achievements, classes, loot, weapons, spells, and hints, but they do not establish an official cheat menu, console command, or universal trainer. Do not treat an unverified code list as a guaranteed shortcut.

The central principle is to preserve options. A conversation, inspection, spell, or Questing Tree decision can open a route that a rushed attack would remove. The official site describes the design this way: “Each Quest Branch can take root in your mind and alter The Cleric’s playstyle through game-changing feats.”

Build your Cleric without wasting permanent choices

Spend the creation points deliberately

An Into Indie Games guide reports six ability stats, a starting pool of 27 points, and two proficiency points. A separate Cheatbook hints page says base stats remain locked for the run. Those are third-party, version-sensitive claims, not a promise that every current build behaves identically, so check the numbers and reset options shown by your own character-creation screen before confirming.

If your version also makes base attributes permanent, avoid an even spread. A broad character can appear flexible but may fail the higher checks that make a focused dialogue, spell, or investigation route possible. Pick the kind of decisions you expect to make most often, then put the majority of points into the abilities that support that approach. Keep the two proficiency points for a clear purpose instead of using them to patch several weak areas.

  • Dialogue-first character: Favor the abilities you expect to use when persuading, deceiving, interpreting, or negotiating, and let the conversation system do work that a weapon would otherwise have to do.
  • Investigation-focused character: Prioritize the checks that help you notice, inspect, or understand clues, then search rooms and objects before leaving.
  • Magic-focused character: Build toward the checks and proficiencies that support your preferred spells and the narrative alternatives those spells can reveal.
  • Combat insurance: Keep enough coverage for encounters you cannot talk around, but do not assume every obstacle is intended to be solved by force.

The labels above describe decision priorities, not official classes or guaranteed builds. The game’s reactive structure means a choice that is excellent for one route may be irrelevant on another.

A reported Intelligence route

The Into Indie Games guide gives a concrete example involving an Intelligence-based feat: repeatedly telling people in Tolstad that your character is a powerful wizard can eventually contribute to unlocking it. Treat this as one reported route, not the only way to increase spell capacity or obtain the feat. If you want to discover the system naturally, try varied, consistent role-playing and watch which Questing Tree branches begin to grow.

Use conversation and inspection before combat

The official game description says that spells can unlock narrative choices, expose secrets, and let the Cleric speak with living or dead characters. That makes exploration a mechanical tool, not decoration. Before attacking, leaving an area, or committing to a prominent dialogue answer, look for another interaction that could change the available checks.

  1. Inspect the surroundings. Examine objects, bodies, doors, unusual scenery, and anything that can be selected. An inspection may reveal context needed for a later check.
  2. Talk to everyone useful. Exhaust productive conversation branches before escalating. Record names, locations, promises, and contradictions mentally or in your own notes.
  3. Revisit the problem with the right spell. If an interaction appears impossible, consider whether a spell can reveal a secret, alter the dialogue, or reach someone ordinary speech cannot.
  4. Compare the consequences. A violent answer may be faster, but a conversation can preserve information, future checks, or a Questing Tree branch. Choose force when it is your deliberate role-playing decision, not your first reflex.
  5. Leave only after checking the area. Missable content is part of the game’s design, so do not assume an unopened room or unresolved conversation will wait indefinitely.

These steps are practical guidance, not a rule that every encounter hides a secret or that talking always lowers difficulty. Some situations will still demand a roll or a fight.

How the Questing Tree creates unlockables

The developer describes the Questing Tree as a combination of quest log, skill tree, and mind map. It records what the Cleric pursues while also changing how the character plays. Quest branches can unlock feats that affect later checks, dialogue possibilities, spell use, or other approaches to a problem.

Read each branch as a commitment rather than a simple checklist. If a feat supports the identity you are role-playing, continue feeding that branch with related choices. If you are trying to preserve a blind first run, resist looking up every branch immediately; the uncertainty is part of the intended experience. For a planned completion run, map which decisions feed which branches before choosing a response that closes another route.

Shards of Jor and retrying a roll

Cheatbook lists Shards of Jor as a resource that can retry a roll. Because this detail comes from a third-party hints page, verify the item’s name, availability, cost, and exact behavior in your current game. Do not spend a rare resource automatically: first decide whether the failed check blocks a route you genuinely want, or merely changes the story into a different viable branch.

Spells, equipment, and secrets: expand your options

Magic is more than damage. The official site specifically presents spells as tools for narrative choices, secret detection, and communication with the dead. When a spell becomes available, test its descriptive purpose in situations where ordinary interaction has stalled. A spell that does not help in combat may still expose a clue or unlock a different conversation.

Steam’s guide hub includes separate categories for loot, weapons, and spells, while community guide indexes also list equipment and spell-finding help. Use those categories when you know the kind of help you need instead of opening a full walkthrough and spoiling every location. Equipment guides are most useful when you are checking whether a missed item is tied to a conversation, a hidden inspection, or a particular route.

  • Need a new option? Search a spell or equipment guide by location and prerequisite rather than by a complete story chapter.
  • Found a secret but not its use? Return to relevant characters and inspect nearby objects; the discovery may be a key for a later branch rather than an immediate reward.
  • Failed a check? Consider a different spell, proficiency, or dialogue approach before assuming the content is permanently lost.

  1. Choose a clear build direction. Allocate the reported 27 starting points and two proficiency points only after deciding which kinds of checks and role-playing choices matter most to you. Confirm the current version’s rules before finalizing.
  2. Explore every accessible area. Inspect objects and speak with characters before selecting an irreversible-looking answer or initiating combat.
  3. Use the Questing Tree as feedback. Notice which branches respond to your actions. Let the emerging feats guide your next choices instead of trying to force a universal build.
  4. Keep spells in your problem-solving loop. Reconsider a blocked conversation or suspicious location after gaining a new spell.
  5. Accept some misses. The creator has said the game is designed around players missing substantial content in a normal run. A first playthrough does not need to expose every branch to be successful.

Following this approach gives you a coherent character and a readable story without turning the first run into a checklist.

Spoiler-heavy completion planning

Why a single-run 100% attempt is unrealistic for most players

Steam currently lists 56 achievements. In a PC Gamer interview, Christoffer Bodegård said that a single playthrough can theoretically award every achievement, while also explaining that a first run is extremely unlikely to do so. He described hidden content and a design in which players are expected to miss a substantial share of the game.

That makes a two-stage plan more practical. Play once with minimal outside help so your choices have meaning. On a later run, use achievement lists, location guides, and branch notes to target content you skipped. A completionist route is not automatically better; it trades surprise for coverage.

No neutral source establishes that one of these guides is universally more accurate than the others.

How to avoid common completion mistakes

Do not follow a 100% route during a blind run

A location-by-location walkthrough can reveal hidden modifiers, branch outcomes, and the order in which characters appear. Bookmark it for a later completion run or use only the section that solves your immediate problem. Reading ahead defeats the reason the game makes information partial.

Do not assume a failed roll ends the story

Dice-based encounters are designed around changing outcomes. A failed check may close one approach while opening another. Before retrying with a Shard of Jor, if you have verified that item in your build, ask whether the result actually blocks an achievement or only changes the route you imagined.

Do not spread permanent stats to cover every possibility

If the guide-reported locked-stat rule applies to your version, an unfocused opening can make later checks harder. Build for a role, use spells and conversation to cover gaps, and reserve completionist experimentation for a new run.

Do not treat a guide’s example as an exclusive trigger

The Tolstad wizard dialogue is one reported way to contribute to an Intelligence-based feat. It does not prove that every player must repeat the exact line or that no alternative route exists. Record the underlying behavior—consistent role-playing can shape a branch—rather than copying a sentence without understanding its context.

What to do when you are stuck

  • You cannot find the next objective: Recheck the Questing Tree, review unresolved conversations, and inspect nearby objects before opening a full walkthrough.
  • A character will not reveal information: Try a different dialogue approach, then return after gaining a relevant spell or learning a new clue.
  • You missed an achievement: Note the location and decision that led to the miss, finish the current run if you are still enjoying it, and target that branch in a later playthrough.
  • Your build feels weak: Stop investing in unrelated options, use equipment and spells to compensate, and treat the run as information for a more focused second character.
  • You are worried about spoilers: Use a single-topic Steam guide—such as spells or equipment—instead of a chapter-by-chapter completion route.

The bottom line on Esoteric Ebb cheats

There is no verified traditional cheat-code solution to rely on. The strongest advantages come from deliberate stat allocation, inspecting and talking before fighting, using spells to open alternate routes, and treating the Questing Tree as a changing build rather than a static skill list. Because Esoteric Ebb intentionally hides substantial content and lists 56 Steam achievements, the best strategy depends on your goal: stay mostly blind for a first story, then use targeted or spoiler-heavy guides for the branches and achievements you missed.
